Source:The Bulwark talking about Arizona career political candidate Kari Lake. She's a career political candidate, because she's never gotten elected to anything. Which never stops her from running for office. |
"Kari Lake can deliver a good performance, but she's not really a true believer, as her flip on the Arizona abortion law shows. Plus, the normal part of life near the border, the specter of violence at MAGA rallies, and the grueling but necessary function of covering Trump for the long haul. Olivia Nuzzi joins Tim Miller on The Bulwark Podcast."
From The Bulwark
"One thousand nine hundred and fifty-four miles, from the Pacific to the Gulf, where people live and work. Where they commute between Mexico and the United States like they commute between New Jersey and New York, passing through a security checkpoint as they would a toll outside the Holland Tunnel. Where you may look in the distance to mountains and valleys and ask where one country ends and the other begins. Where you may start to wonder about the nature of such distinctions, about the nature of separateness, about the nature of self, about borders between men, between man and state, between civilization and disorder. Where you may appreciate just how young a species we are and how tribal. If you have never stood on the banks of the Rio Grande in Texas or the Colorado River in Arizona, if you have never come face-to-face with the wall, 30 feet high, that looms multiples higher in our national psyche, if you have never put your hand through its steel tines and reached into Mexico, if you have never thrown away your bubble gum in Juárez because you cannot chew gum and walk into the United States at the same time, per the signage at Customs, the boundary between countries can seem ominous and alien, an uninhabitable space somewhere between the end of America and the end of the earth.
And then you get there and there’s a Starbucks...
From New York Magazine
I sort gotten into this yesterday about whether or not Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene (MAGA, Georgia) believes in her own political propaganda, or is she simply a political conwoman:
"Or, MTG is smart enough to know that America, or at least rural Georgia which is where most of her House district is, even though it's just west of Atlanta, but it goes up about 100 miles or so, near Athens, is full of escaped mental patients and 1st grade dropouts. And these folks are the perfect pickings (to use a Southern phrase) for a political conwoman like Marjorie Taylor Greene. And she simply uses them to gain power and stay in power.
This is my theory about Arizona MAGA career political candidate (whose never gotten elected to anything) Kari Lake, because even Kari is now intelligent enough to see that her MAGA style of politics, doesn't work in statewide Arizona and she's already moderating there.
Moscow Marg could be the Georgia version of the political conwoman as well. Or, she could be escaped mental patient, who dropped out of the 1st grade. Perhaps kicked out because she's so damn crazy. But I think my theory that I laid out is correct here."
From The New Democrat
I don't know for a fact if Marjorie T. Greene is a political conwoman, or she's so stupid and crazy that she consistently walks into doors because she forgets to open the door and so crazy that she not only believes that Donald J. Trump not only won the 2020 presidential election, but Vladimir Putin is a great and honest man.
But there's plenty of evidence to suggest that Kari Lake is the political version of a used car saleswoman. Who can convince people that a 1978 Ford Pinto, is not only worth 20,000 dollars, but it's a better car than a brand new Cadillac. And she's simply a political player who saw Donald Trump get elected to The White House in 2016 and created this MAGA movement and she believes that she can politically piggyback on that and get herself into statewide political office in Arizona.
Kari has already flipped on 1864 abortion law where she's politically smart enough to know that she's not running for the U.S. Senate in West Virginia, but Arizona. Which is now not just a political swing state, but it leans Democrat, at least when it's a Democrat versus a MAGA member. And, that this law is very unpopular in Arizona. But add to that, she can't win statewide in Arizona, with just Arizona rednecks (to put it bluntly) and she needs urban and suburban voters in Arizona, where most of the 7 million Arizonans live. And she can't run a West Virginia statewide style of political campaign in Arizona and expect to win this election.
As far as abortion and the Republican Party: to sort of pick up on Olivia Nuzzi's line about it being the dog that caught the car for them politically, I would put it that it's more like suicidal person on the highway, begging people to run them over and even holding sign up saying: "Please hit me." The more that Republicans run on it in swing states and swing districts, the more they're going to lose. And even Kari Lake whose a two-time statewide loser in Arizona (and has even admitted that she's lied about her election claims) knows all of this.
