Bruce Bartlett: The 50-Year Republican Plan for Total Victory

"Following is a book proposal I put together last year tracing the historical road to Trump, which I believe began in 1974. He is the culmination of a number of actions, trends, and institutional developments that coincidentally started approximately the same year. My agent told me the book was unpublishable and she refused to send it to any publishers. But since then, a number of books have come out examining the history of the conservative movement and how its evolution plowed the ground for Trump and fascism. I gave up on the book, but could be motivated to give it another try if there is an editor out there who wants to contact me about it at bartlettbruce@verizon.net. Alternatively, I may take some of the chapter ideas and develop them here if readers show an interest. Leave a comment. BB

I have spent a great deal of time in recent years thinking about where all the craziness came from. I had a front row seat when the seeds were planted in the 1970s, as the right began its 50-year march through all levels of government, the courts, the media, and every other important political institution.

I moved to Washington, DC in the fall of 1974 to go to graduate school, a conservative in a liberal town. I had been a member of Young Americans for Freedom during college and remember clearly having to dodge anti-Vietnam War protesters on my way to Air Force ROTC drills in uniform. When I see today’s campus protests I have a strong sense of déjà vu and remember that conservative opposition to Vietnam War protests was a key factor fueling a change in strategy toward the left.

I was interested in history, especially what was called “revisionist history.” I thought there had been a conspiracy to cover-up the Roosevelt Administration’s responsibility for the Pearl Harbor attack. I planned to write a master’s thesis on the subject at Georgetown. I mention this because my interest in revisionism brought me in touch with people and organizations on the conservative fringes that were important in creating a conservative worldview that was much different from the one that existed in the 1930s through the 1960s. It was a more aggressive conservatism, radical and militant. It was not the conservatism of the country club or the Chamber of Commerce, where the main concern was labor unions. The conservatism of the early 1970s was more ideological, less partisan—many conservatives despised the Republican Party for its timidity and willingness to cut deals with Democrats—and broader in its interests and the sorts of strategies it was willing to use to achieve victory.

Watergate. Obviously, the central event of 1974. To understand its political importance on the right, one must understand that many conservatives viewed Nixon as a liberal in terms of policy, a view now shared by most historians. Nevertheless, because he was under attack by Democrats and what was widely perceived as a liberal media, conservatives circled the wagons around him. I remember the conservative Stan Evans telling me that he never liked Nixon until Watergate. When Nixon was forced out of office conservatives saw this as a liberal coup. The importance of this absurd belief is that the right became much more alienated from society and adopted a more aggressive approach to fighting the left...

From Bruce Bartlett

I don't know if I completely disagree with what Bruce Bartlett is arguing here... but from where I am, I can see a complete disagreement with what he's saying. I just have a few issues with him and one is what it actually means to be a Conservative.

Bruce Bartlett seems to go by the idea that everyone on the Right, is a Conservative. Which is ridiculous, because the far-right doesn't really believe in anything that has to do with conserving. They are always trying to blow things up and take on, if not take down the establishment. When the fact is being a Conservative, is for a large part about being part of the establishment and conserving it.

I think what this is really about is how much the Republican Party has changed the last 60 years. Before Richard Nixon, this was a country club, white-collar, very wealthy, center-right, political party. And all the blue-collar, small town, religious fundamentalist types, were Democrats, in most cases.

Today, the Republican Party still has that white-collar-country club wing in it, but most of those folks are what I would call today, Yuppiecrats. Those Democrats are JFK Democrats, as well as fake leftists, who talk and act like Socialists. But who live like white-collar, liberal capitalists, who love capitalism and liberal democracy as the real Liberals and Conservatives, while they're bashing those liberal values in public.

I think what really changed the Republican Party, was Watergate. For the Richard Nixon loyalists, (people who are very similar and in many cases the same voters as MAGA) what President Nixon and his Administration did in response to the anti-war-left, and the militant far--left in the early 1970s, with their Plummers Unit and their secret national security state, and how they tried to cover up Watergate... those actions taken by the Nixon Administration, were no worst than what Democrats did when they were in power before Richard Nixon. And they've never forgiven the Democrats, as well as mainstream Republicans and the mainstream media, for taking down Richard Nixon.

I don't think there has ever been a "50 year plan for total victory" by the far-right in the Republican Party. But when Newt Gingrich was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1978, he got to works fairly quickly to put together a plan that would win back the House for Republicans. At the time Newt Gingrich was elected, House Republicans only had 145 seats in the House and they picked up 15 seats in 1978. It wasn't until 1994 that Republicans won back the House. But as former U.S. Representative Robert Walker wrote for the Ripon Society in 2014 about the Conservative Opportunity Society:

"Gingrich and COS were mostly younger Members of Congress who had a desire to see the party fight to become a majority.  Gingrich recognized that the change he wanted would take legislative activists committed to using the congressional processes for political battle and development of a unique agenda.  The Members he recruited for COS were conservatives, moderates and pragmatists who shared a willingness to engage the Democrats on national issues.

Early leaders of the group included Vin Weber, Hank Brown, Duncan Hunter and me.  We began meeting on Wednesday mornings in 121 Cannon and agreed that we had to develop a compelling agenda.  The agenda needed to be visionary with a clear view of economic, cultural and societal change.  So, we reached out to futurists, including Al Toffler and John Nesbitt, and met with them for hours at a time.  What came out of those sessions was grounding in the emerging information economy and the magnitude of the change that the new economy would produce.  The futurists’ insight provided us with the foundation for the principles and programs we would advocate...

From the Ripon Society

Newt Gingrich has always been a hyper-partisan figure, at least rhetorically. He was always very pragmatic in how he governed when he was Speaker of the House and perhaps even when he was House Minority Whip in the early 1990s.

But with Newt Gingrich and these other populist-right figures like Trent Lott, U.S. Representatives like Vin Weber, Hank Brown, Duncan Hunter, and many others, from the 1980s and 90s... this is where the Republican Party doesn't become more or less conservative, but more populist. And they go from primarily a center-right, country club, white-collar, political party, to a party that includes a lot more blue-collar, working-class, religious fundamentalist voters. Which is the Republican Party that we see today.

But there's never been 1 plan put together where the far-right would just take over the Republican Party, but the entire U.S. Government... except for what the Heritage Foundation put together with their Project 2025 last year.

Ben Meiselas: MAGA Mike CAVES As EPSTEIN FILES VOTE IS IMMINENT!!

"MeidasTouch host Ben Meiselas reports Republican Speaker MAGA Mike Johnson caving and swearing in Democratic Congresswoman-Elect Adelita Grijavala who will become the 218th signatures on the discharge petition to release the Epstein files."

Source:Meidas Touch with a look at the MAGA Speaker and the MAGA Don.

From the Meidas Touch

From POLITICO:

"Speaker Mike Johnson has scheduled Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva’s swearing-in for Wednesday around 4 p.m., right before the House votes on government funding, according to a notice from his office.

The Democrat was elected to her Arizona seat 49 days ago, but the speaker delayed her swearing-in as he kept the House out of session until after the Senate acted to end the government shutdown."

From POLITICO

This is where The New Democrat has been on releasing the Epstein files.

8/19/2025

"The speculation (and I'm sure it's true) is that the reason why President Trump doesn't want his Attorney General Pam Bondi, to release the Epstein files, because he knows he's all over them and it would be very embarrassing for him. Even though there's probably nothing in them that could probably incriminate him of anything relating to Jeffrey Epstein.

But my point is, for reasons that I've already laid out, is Donald Trump literally has nothing to lose here in releasing them. He's already the most unpopular 2nd term President, at least in the television and internet age. People who dislike and hate him now, won't dislike and hate him more after those files are released to the public...

9/02/2025

"As far as the Epstein files, it's hard to imagine a sitting U.S. President being more unpopular than Donald John Trump. He's now in Joe Biden's range as far as political unpopularity, with his low 40s and upper 30s approval rating. Releasing the Epstein files even with him all over them, couldn't hurt himself anymore than what he's already done to his own political standing. If anything, it would probably just make him seem cooler with his reality TV base and perhaps even Independents who voted for him, because they think he's a "badass" or something:

"Yeah!!! The Donald rolls with pimps and sex traffickers!!! He's even a bigger badass than we thought"

Or phrase that last part anyway you want."

Before someone accuses me of pretending to be a mindreader by saying that the only reason why U.S. Representative-Elect Adelita Grijalva hasn't been sworn in yet to the House, is because she's the 218th vote on Representative Tom Massie's discharge petition to get the Epstein files released... I'll go on the record right now... swear under oath, even that I'm not only not a mindreader, but I'm not pretending to be one.

I'm not reading Speaker Mike Johnson's mind here. Also in the news: I'm not going to fly to Los Angeles from Washington, by wearing a cape and flapping my arms. But the circumstantial evidence is obvious here:

You go to bed at night and it's completely dry and clear outside. And you wake up the next morning (unless you had a rough night) and there's snow on the ground. Now a mentally unhealthy person might say that an army of people came in and completely dumped white powder all over your yard and your neighborhood, while you were asleep. An intelligent person would say, it snowed last night. Even though they went to sleep before it started snowing.

Speaker Mike Johnson (MAGA, Shreveport, Louisiana) has been 100% loyal to Donald Trump the whole year. Not just on policy grounds and delivering the votes to pass most of the President's agenda through the House. But also serving as the President's blocker (as they say in auto racing) by not doing any real Congressional oversight in the House and preventing embarrassing information for the President from coming out... like preventing votes on releasing the Epstein files. Which is really what I want to talk about and why that is the case. Not whether or not I'm a mindreader or not.

What a difference just 1 election year can make. Republicans were on top of the world after the 2024 elections a year ago. They still looked like they were in good shape, even in February. But last week, Republicans (especially MAGA) got hammered everywhere in the country where there were competitive elections or referendums going on.

After tomorrow, there will be 214 House Democrats in the 119th Congress, after Adelita Grijalva is sworn in tomorrow. Now, I'm not going to say there will be 50-60 Republicans who will vote for Representative Massie's petition. I don't know where Representative Ro Khanna and others are getting that information. But I could see 15-20. And those members who will probably be the Republicans who will probably lose reelection next year, if they run for reelection. But voting for the Massie petition could help whatever reelection chances that they have in 26, at least in the general election.

Jesse Dollemore: 60 Minutes TRIED TO HIDE THIS Donald Trump Interview Segment!!!

"Jesse discusses Donald Trump's 60 Minutes interview, which aired last night and was heavily edited, a fact that serves as the "justification" for his lawsuit and ultimate settlement with CBS. In the interview, Trump says he doesn't know the crypto criminal he pardoned, who ended up paying Donald Trump $2 billion!"

Source:Jesse Dollemore talking about The Don of Manhattan who has now taken over Washington.

From Jesse Dollemore

I didn't watch the 60 Minutes interview. But from people I saw on social media who apparently did see the interview (or what they wanted to see) that's not what I saw here.

I mean you always want interviewers from mainstream, well-established, news organizations, (like CBS News) to ask hard followups to their hard questions... especially when the interviewee gives a ridiculous answer to the question, or doesn't even bother to try to answer the question. That's been the main issue The New Democrat has had with Meet The Press anchor Kristen Welker. Her original questions aren't that difficult to answer. But she makes that worst when the interviewee won't even answer that and she'll just let that person go on as if they were a U.S. Senator, doing their own filibuster. And then she'll finally come in and say something like:

"There's so much I would love to talk to you about today. But we're all out of time for this week".

But at least Norah O'Donnell did ask some real questions and score some real points here:

"This is a question about pardons. The Trump family is now perhaps more associated with cryptocurrency than real estate. You and your son-- your sons, Don Jr. and Eric, have formed World Liberty Financial with the Witkoff family.

Helping to make your family millions of dollars. It's in that context that I do wanna ask you about crypto's richest man, a billionaire known as C.Z. He pled guilty in 2023 to violating anti-money laundering laws.

Looked at this, the government at the time said that C.Z. had caused "significant harm to U.S. national security", essentially by allowing terrorist groups like Hamas to move millions of dollars around. Why did you pardon him?

And President Trump responded to the question about the pardons with this:

"Okay, are you ready? I don't know who he is. I know he got a four-month sentence or something like that. And I heard it was a Biden witch hunt. And what I wanna do is see crypto, 'cause if we don't do it it's gonna go to China, it's gonna go to-- this is no different to me than AI.

My sons are involved in crypto much more than I-- me. I-- I know very little about it, other than one thing. It's a huge industry. And if we're not gonna be the head of it, China, Japan, or someplace else is. So I am behind it 100%. This man was, in my opinion, from what I was told, this is, you know, a four-month sentence.

But this man was treated really badly by the Biden administration. And he was given a jail term. He's highly respected. He's a very successful guy. They sent him to jail and they really set him up. That's my opinion. I was told about it.

I said, "Eh, it may look bad if I do it. I have to do the right thing." I don't know the man at all. I don't think I ever met him. Maybe I did. Or, you know, somebody shook my hand or something. But I don't think I ever met him. I have no idea who he is. I was told that he was a victim, just like I was and just like many other people, of a vicious, horrible group of people in the Biden administration".

And Norah O'Donnell comes back (some people might call it a followup) with:

"The government had accused him of "significant harm to U.S. national security"--

Okay. Allowing U.S. terrorist groups to, you know, essentially move millions of dollars around. He pled guilty to anti-money laundering laws. That was in 2023. Then in 2025 his crypto exchange, Binance, helped facilitate a $2 billion purchase of World Liberty Financial's stablecoin. And then you pardoned C.Z. How do you address the appearance of pay for play?"

And this part from President Trump that I think should scare the hell out of any loyal American who believes in the rule of law:

"Well, here's the thing, I know nothing about it because I'm too busy doing the other--

From CBS News

And after the pardon exchange, The Rambling Don makes a reappearance and you get to hear how great DJT thinks his family is doing. But you'll have to find that mini DJT filibuster on your own.

So even though Changpeng Zhao pled guilty to money laundering and was laundering money to terrorist groups like Hamas (and perhaps others) President Trump pardons a man that he claims he's never even heard of, doesn't even know. Not to mention the fact that he is in business with the Trump Family's business crypto financial company.

So either the President of the United States is auto-penning his presidential pardons, or signing them without even bothering to read them first.

Or, another solid possibility and I think it's a great contender... (I would pick it to the win championship here) President Trump is simply doing what he always does when he's caught doing something bad to his face, that he shouldn't have done and just lies about not knowing about exactly what he just did and the crook that he just gave a great deal to, simply because he has a financial or political interest in that person.

The New Democrat has been saying for about a year now: elections have consequences. When you stay home, or vote for a candidate who doesn't even get 1% of the vote, or you vote for someone like Donald J. Trump, a lot of bad shit happens. (To be frank about it) Like pardoning criminals, who do business with terrorist groups... who even pled guilty to what they would've been convicted of. And they only get the pardon because they have a business interest with the current President of the United States.

Fran Drescher: Funny Women of a Certain Age

From Comedy Dynamics

So I'm guessing this Fran Drescher stand up performance is from late 2017, or early 2018, because she says she just turned 60 in 1 of these videos. But she was born September 30, 1957 (not that I'm her personal biographer or anything) and it's now October, 2025. So she's 68 today. Now, if anyone is still awake from that, I'll give both of you the rest of this story.

Not that I would ever guess that Fran Drescher is 68 today. She's just too, damn cute, with those eyes, big baby cheeks, and smile. I think even her Jewish, Queens, New York accent, is very cute. Even though some people might think it's as annoying as spam calls at dinner time. I think she sounds like a sweetheart with it. And part of her Jewish Queens background, is how she got the lead in Nanny. So it obviously paid off for her. (Not that I'm trying to sound too ethnic here)

Speaking of very funny women... the hilarious and adorable Joan Collins, who made at least 1 appearance on Nanny with Fran Drescher, is known for the quote:

"Age is just a number... unless you are a bottle of wine". I guess an old bottle of wine, wouldn't be a fine bottle of wine. But that's besides the point.

And my point is not it's "not how old you are, but how you feel". That cliche is the great, great, grandfather of "only time will tell" and it's not accurate either. My point and I think it's Joan Collins point as well (even though I've never even spoke to the woman, let alone know here) is that it's not about years that you lived, but your quality of life. And besides, a crazy person could think they can walk on air, even at 85 years old, or jump out of a window, and fly away. But it's about how you are mentally and physically, how productive and happy you are, regardless of how old you are.

There are 19 year olds who are currently in prison for murder and looking at as many as 30 years, maybe even the rest of their lives, in prison. Are you going to try to convince me that their quality of life and that they should feel better about their life, then a beautiful, adorable, 68 year old woman, who is a professional comedian and a very successful 1 at that? You wouldn't try to convince me that the 19 year old in prison is having a better life... unless you were currently high, drunk, insane, current suffering from brain damage that was never even diagnosed. Or, you drugged me, or spiked my glass of ice tea, with entire bottle of scotch, without me knowing about it.

And as far as Fran Drescher having a gay husband: I would bet anything (that someone else has) that Fran didn't send her husband into homosexuality. Or broke into his closet, tore it down even, and through him out of it.

But Fran Drescher's marriage to a gay man does remind me a series of Seinfeld episodes back in the 1990s, when George (played by Jason Alexander) is engaged to marry his girlfriend. And she calls it off, splits up with him and they run into each other later on, only this time she now has a girlfriend.

Now, George Constanza could send Marilyn Monroe, Sophia Loren, Jaclyn Smith... into homosexuality. 3 of the most beautiful and cutest, most feminine women, in the history of Planet Earth. But have them date George Constanza for a while, they would not just give up men, but they would become so gay that they would all try out to play for the New York Giants football team and all make the team as linebackers, not kickers, or cheerleaders. They would make former Clinton Administration Attorney General Janet Reno, look like Miss America, in comparison, after a few dates with Mr. Constanza.

I mean George is like:

5'6-5'7, 190-200 pounds,

balding,

can't see his fingers in front of his face, without his glasses,

unemployed, still living with his aging parents in his mid 30s...

he couldn't give a damn about anyone other than himself, even for a million dollars. George, is the perfect candidate to send an attractive, feminine woman, into lesbianism.

But Fran Drescher:

5'7 and built,

beautiful, baby face brunette,

who is very sweet and funny, as well as successful.

I think her ex-husband, was living out-of-a-closet and pretending to be straight man's, man, (meant in the straight man's sense) to keep his secret safe.

Tara Palmeri: How Zohran Mamdani & Donald Trump Use The Same Playbook

"What if the boldest voices in politics—from rising stars like Zohran Mamdani to entrenched figures like Donald Trump—are secretly reading from the same scripted page of tactics and maneuvers?
In this episode of Tara Palmeri Live, dive deep into the uncanny parallels shaping today's political battlegrounds, where progressive upstarts and conservative powerhouses deploy identical strategies of disruption, narrative control, and crowd mobilization to advance wildly opposing agendas. Joined by Steve Schmidt, the veteran strategist behind incisive takes on political peril, we unpack how these playbook moves expose the raw mechanics of influence in a divided America, from viral messaging blitzes to coalition-building gambits that flip the script on conventional wisdom.
What overlooked tactic from this shared playbook do you see dominating the next election cycle?"

Source:Tara Palmeri doing her impression of a lot in space valley girl. Actually, I don't know what she's doing there.

From Tara Palmeri

So the basic point of what Tara Palmeri and Steve Schmidt is talking about here, is that what I would call the Squad-Left, or the Bernie Bro-Left, has taken on the establishment wing of the Democratic Party and has beaten them. All that's obvious and Palemeri and Schmidt got into what they call the establishment wing of the Democratic Party.

If you are from Washington, like myself, the establishment is the K Street wing of the Democratic Party. The Squad-Left is basically the hipster, coffee house wing, of very young and idealistic... leftist Democrats and people who aren't officially Democrats, but vote Democrat when they see Democrats who are leftist and cool enough for them.

And the K Street wing of the Democratic Party, are the corporate backers who can finance mainstream Democrats campaigns all by themselves, just from their corporate pacs, or with their own money. And those folks don't want to be seen as Republicans, even mainstream Republicans. But what they are really worried about is the Democratic Party becoming too left-wing and too far-left, too idealistic and populist. And think you win campaigns by being mushy-middle, but never ever having any solid principles about anything to win purple states and districts.

And I agree, part of the problem with the Democratic Party is that they're seen as the party of Ivy League, wealthy people, who've never had to even worry about they would pay for their own college education, let alone their kids and people are very awkward when they have to talk to ordinary Americans, who have to work really hard everyday, just to pay their bills.

So Zohran Mamdani comes along in 2025 in New York City who has taken some real far-left, whacked-out positions like:

NYPD: "Racist, anti-queer & a major threat to public safety, and a rogue agency."

Property rights: “If there was any system that could guarantee each person housing — whether you call it the abolition of private property or you call it a statewide housing guarantee — it is preferable to what is going on right now".

Government-run grocery stores: Zohran Mamdani has proposed to create municipal owned grocery stores in New York City. He's proposing that the government there run and own grocery stores in that city.

But since Mamdani speaks to the concerns about a lot of New Yorkers there, when it comes to affordability and has no issues about telling people what he thinks about anything, regardless of how far-left he sounds, he's doing something in New York City, what Donald Trump is doing nationally... or at least in the states that Trump won... which is win in all of these places simply by being himself. And running against the corrupt establishment in his own party.

Senate Judiciary Committee: Pam Bondi VS Dick Durbin & Adam Schiff

"Jesse talks about Pam Bondi’s abysmal day of testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee, where she merely repeated the canned lines as responses that were clearly written for her by Stephen Miller or Donald Trump himself."

Source:Jesse Dollemore talking about Attorney General Pam Bondi's latest Trump reality TV performance.

From Jesse Dollemore

I don't have much to say in response to what Jesse Dollemore is saying here. At best, you are just getting the MSNBC prime time, partisan analysis, advertised as news, from Dollemore. But you are free to listen to every word that comes out of his mouth... if you have nothing better to do. If that's the case, I feel sorry for you. But I will give you my "just the facts, Jack' routine here and then tell you what I think about that.

If Attorney General Pam Bondi just in her opening statement said: "I'm not here to answer any serious questions from Democrats", from the beginning, she could've saved taxpayers a lot of time and money and this committee hearing would've been a lot shorter and she would've been back at DOJ, or could've gone home from the Dirksen Senate Office Building, a lot sooner.

But when you work for Donald John Trump, you are not a "public servant", at least not anymore. There are exceptions, but the Pam Bondi's, the Pete Hegseth's, the Steve Miller's, are the general rule in Donald J. Trump's latest political reality TV show: "Trump Takes Over Washington, America is next".

When you work for President Trump, you are a performer, a political reality TV performer. If he doesn't think you are 100% loyal to him and he doesn't think you look good and sound good on TV... you could be a 4 star war with more medals, that the New York Yankees trophy case wouldn't be large enough to hold... but you could forget about ever being his Secretary of Defense. If you care more about America, than you care about him. And that's just 1 example.

I mean we see this everyday with the President's "press secretary". Karoline Leavitt is no more a press secretary, than fish are elephants. She's only there to give MAGA's latest partisan and tell people how great she thinks her boss is.

So when you see the exchange between the Attorney General and Senator Adam Schiff, yesterday... Senator Schiff already knows that and he wasn't there to let her use his time to talk about much she thinks Democrats hate America, or how much she thinks the the Senator sucks, or "is he even a real lawyer", etc. The Senator used his time to layout the questions that he would liked to be answered, if only there was someone at the witness table there who was even qualified to answer his questions. And I think Senator Schiff did a very effective job at that.

And while Senator Schiff is dominating his time, the Attorney General is trying to speak over him, while the camera is still on him, not her, talking about everything that has nothing to do with what he wanted to talk about, which was the use and authorization of the National Guard, Tom Homan being caught taking a bribe, the Jim Comey trial, etc. But had the Senator had given her anytime whatsoever, all she would've done was talk about how bad a lawyer she thinks he is, crime in Los Angeles, and California wildfires, etc.

My colleague Ederik Schneider talked about the Attorney General's appearance at the Senate Judiciary Committee yesterday:

"Anytime anyone is testifying in front of Congress... (House or Senate) especially if they have a legal background, (like being a lawyer, prosecutor, attorney general, etc) they have to know that everything that you say to members of Congress and to their committees, can be used against you. Attorney General Pam Bondi, back in February, said there was an Epstein client list on her desk to review...

Here’s the thing about the victims of Jeffrey Epstein: they’re not going away. In fact, they’re hellbent on forcing Congress to pay attention after being ignored for decades. That’s why I’m launching The Reckoning, a series spotlighting how survivors are taking justice into their own hands because no one else will. These reports will track how they’re breaking chains of silence and demanding accountability from leaders while the Justice Department still refuses to release the Epstein files.

Part one of the series zeroes in on Epstein survivor and Alaskan Marijke Chartouni, who has turned her attention to Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), the deciding vote on September 10 to block the release of the Epstein files. Chartouni uncovered Murkowski’s longstanding ties to Ghislaine Maxwell’s husband, Scott Borgerson, and the many occasions Murkowski appeared on stage with Maxwell at ocean-advocacy conferences. They were appearances that, intentionally or not, helped launder Maxwell’s name even as she was publicly linked to Epstein...

As I wrote about this 2 weeks ago:

"Senator Murkowski making the case for Congressional term limits with just this 1 statement right here:

"The amendment was a surprise and disrupted the normal process of working on the defense bill."

This is what you can sound like when you've been in Congress for over 20 years: you run out of good policy arguments to vote against something that could hurt you with your right-wing, if you vote against them and instead rely on procedure, because you don't want to offend other voters in your state, or hurt your credibility in Washington...

So what Tara Palmeri and her associate discovered through their investigation, would explain why Senator Lisa Murkowski sounded like a senator who was just wrapping up a 20 hour filibuster and instead of just reading out of the local Washington phonebook, or reading from a children's book, or the ingredients from a bunch of can goods... she instead says:

"The amendment was a surprise and disrupted the normal process of working on the defense bill."

That was the official reason for why Senator Murkowski voted against the release of the Epstein files, 18 days ago. But the real reason looks like that this distinguished Senator is probably in the Epstein files, or at least in the Ghislaine Maxwell files. Because she has a working relationship with Maxwell's ex-husband, Scott Borgerson.

Now, if there is evidence that Mr. Borgerson is, or was a campaign contributor to 1 of Senator Murkowksi's campaigns, that would be what we call in Washington a smoking gun. But at least we now know the real reason why she voted against the release of the Epstein files. And it has nothing to do with Congressional procedures and rules.

This Murkowski-Borgerson connection, you could say this is 1 reason why people hate Congress and their representatives. 1 problem with that: the people keep voting for the same people over and over who are primarily, if not exclusively interested in their own political careers. So who's fault is that?

Connell McShane: ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ Returning To ABC

"The Walt Disney Company announced Monday it will resume production of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Tuesday after suspending the late-night talk show last week over what the company called “ill-timed and insensitive” comments regarding Charlie Kirk’s assassination."

Source:News Nation with a look at Jimmy Kimmel Live. That's right, he ain't dead yet.

From News Nation

As Ederik Schneider wrote about Jimmy Kimmel's suspension on Friday:

"I mean assuming we survive the Trump Administration (perhaps I should start praying for that everyday) and the next President (hopefully starting in January, 2029) is a pro-Constitution, pro-rule of law... pro-law & order, (if you will President) does MAGA really want a Democratic administration, going after the Greg Gutfeld's, the Sean Hannity's, the Jesse Watters, the Laura Ingraham's? Because they all have bad habits of flat-out lying, or not even knowing what they're even talking about, when they do their commentaries (advertised as news) every night to their audiences.

I would bet anything that 4 years from now, if there is a Democratic administration at that point, MAGA and company will start pretending to be "champions of free speech again", if a Democratic led FCC starts targeting their commentators...

I would say that what ABC is doing here: "Is taking a strong stand for the First Amendment, the free press, after they realized the error of their ways and have decided to make amends with Jimmy Kimmel and every other comedian and commentator who has the big balls to say anything critical about Donald Trump, or any of his allies". But then I would be lying. And we don't do that here at The New Democrat. (At least when we're under oath) So I'm not going to start now.

There's actually something else going on here. Perhaps this expression here is not 100% app, but there's the old expression: "Money talks and bullshit walks".

The money part of this story is all the revenue that Jimmy Kimmel brings in for the American Broadcasting Company (that some know as just ABC) and the fact that ABC doesn't want to lose its $70 million a year, just from the show on air alone. And Ederik pointed out on Friday, they only suspended Kimmel's show because President Trump  and the FCC threaten to take away ABC's broadcasting license away, had they not had suspended Kimmel over his Charlie Kirk "MAGA gang" comments.

The bullshit part in this story from the expression, "money talks and bullshit walks", is the fact that Jimmy Kimmel was suspended over a bad joke that he made about Charlie Kirk in relation to MAGA and the joke fell flat and offended a lot of people.

Imagine if Johnny Carson, Dave Letterman, Dick Cavett, Jay Leno, etc, all got suspended over every bad joke that they made... we wouldn't have any full-time late night talk show hosts 20, 30, 40, years ago. we wouldn’t have any full-time late night talk show hosts 20, 30, 40, years ago, because they would all be getting suspended… perhaps after every show. The best comedian in the world is not going to be funny 100% of the time and at times will offend a lot of people, even when they're funny.

But as long as money still talks in America and we're still at times able to give bullshit a kick in the ass and tell it to get the hell out of here, there will always be room in our country for the Jimmy Kimmel's and other comedians like him.

Forbes Magazine: Watch The Moment When Senate Republicans Table Motion To Compel DOJ To Release Epstein Files

"On Wednesday night, Senate Republicans, with the exception of Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO), voted to table Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's (D-NY) vote to compel the DOJ to release the Epstein Files."

Source:Forbes Magazine with a look at our tax dollars at work.

From Forbes Magazine

U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (Republican, Alaska) on why she voted to table Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's amendment to release the Epstein files:

"The amendment was a surprise and disrupted the normal process of working on the defense bill."

U.S. Senator Susan Collins (Republican, Maine) on why she voted against Minority Leader Chuck Schumer's amendment to release the Epstein files:

"The effort to insert language into Congress’ annual defense authorization bill would have forced the public release of case files on the sex trafficking investigation into the late Jeffrey Epstein."

This has been the The New Democrat's point about why the Department of Justice should have already released the Epstein files by now... as Fred Schneider wrote back in August:

"But my point is, for reasons that I've already laid out, is Donald Trump literally has nothing to lose here in releasing them. He's already the most unpopular 2nd term President, at least in the television and internet age. People who dislike and hate him now, won't dislike and hate him more after those files are released to the public.

When the far-right of the Republican Party was talking about "family values", morality and character, the need for these things in our government, that was just something they used to attack Democrats. That's not what they care about. Someone could literally be a convicted felon, a serial liar and adulterer... if that person is on their side and represents their political values. And Mr. Trump's professional celebrity base, would probably just view him as a bigger "rockstar" and "badass", after the Epstein files are released.

The main lesson from Watergate that both Republicans and Democrats have failed to learn the last 50 plus years, that once a bad story is about to break, or has broken, is that the worst thing that you can do is to try to cover it up. What you do, is what a good lawyer would do in court: get the bad information and evidence about your side out, before the opposition and the media does it for you. Get ahead of the story and put your own spin on it, before you lose the narrative of it.

As long as The White House and Trump DOJ try to cover up this story, the longer it will be in the news, along with the slowing economy, rising prices, everything else that has gone wrong since Donald Trump became President again. And that's not where you want to be going into an election year. So of course they should release the redacted portions of the Epstein files to Congress and the public as soon as possible. "

And as Derik Schneider wrote last week:

Senator Murkowski making the case for Congressional term limits with just this 1 statement right here:

"The amendment was a surprise and disrupted the normal process of working on the defense bill."

This is what you can sound like when you've been in Congress for over 20 years: you run out of good policy arguments to vote against something that could hurt you with your right-wing, if you vote against them and instead rely on procedure, because you don't want to offend other voters in your state, or hurt your credibility in Washington.

And Senator Collins who is now a 5 term U.S. Senator, who is at least considering running for reelection in 26, (even though she's pretty unpopular in Maine) gets caught in-between 2 voting blocs that she needs to get reelected there in Maine: the MAGA base there and more independent minded Democrats in that state, as well Independents in general and this is how she explained her vote yesterday:

"The effort to insert language into Congress’ annual defense authorization bill would have forced the public release of case files on the sex trafficking investigation into the late Jeffrey Epstein."

From recent Washington reporting on Congress, U.S. Representative Thomas Massie (Republican, Kentucky) thinks he's very close getting the 218 votes that he needs to bring a resolution to the floor that would force the House floor. Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (Democrat, New York) is working on the same resolution, perhaps even with Representative Massie.

How much do you want to bet if the House votes to release the Epstein files, 2-3 weeks from now, and Chuck Schumer brings it up for a vote again in the Senate, that Senators Murlowski and Collins will vote for the amendment, then? And maybe 5-10 more Senate Republicans as well. I think they're just buying their time here. They want to know that it's going to pass the House, first, before going on the record in favor of it themselves. Which is another argument for Congressional term limits: only voting for legislation that you think is politically safe for you to vote for.

Ben Meiselas & Doug Jones: The Ghislaine Maxwell Meeting With DOJ

"MeidasTouch host Ben Meiselas reports on GOP Speaker MAGA Mike Johnson failing to successfully cover up Trump’s dark past during recess and Meiselas interviews former Alabama Senator and top Alabama federal prosecutor Doug Jones about his response to what is going on with Trump’s cover up and more."

Source:Meidas Touch with a look at The MAGA Don & MAGA Mike.

From the Medias Touch

As we've been arguing at The New Democrat for 2 weeks now... this whole relationship between Trump DOJ and Ghislaine Maxwell, is only about 1 thing: trying to make Donald J. Trump look as good as possible. And seem completely innocent of having any real relationship between President Trump and Jeffrey Epstein and his partner Ghislaine Maxwell. As Fred Schneider wrote last week:

"I think Kristy Greenberg hit a home rune (or, should I say "grand slam" since that word has something to do with both baseball and tennis and the US Open is going on right now) when she was talking about Ghislaine Maxwell and the word "inappropriate". Greenberg was talking about the interview that Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche (who still seems to think that he's Donald Trump's defense lawyer) and he asked Maxwell:

"Did you ever hear Mr. Epstein ever say or do anything that President Trump did anything inappropriate with anybody in your world?"

And Maxwell responded with:

"Absolutely never in any context."

So Kristy Greenberg's point here is that you don't let the defendant (or in this case convict) get to decide for you what is "inappropriate" and what is "appropriate". She's been in prison for 5 years now because she was convicted of a lot of inappropriate actions. (And based on the evidence, did some really inappropriate things) And we're not talking about serial jaywalker, (if you are a serial jaywalker, stay out of Washington and Chicago right now) or a shoplifter, who only steals because they are addicted to gum...

And as Ederik Schneider said last week as well:

"But I think "inappropriate" is a better word here because it's clearer and gets right to the point. And when you are a sex trafficker, sex trafficking probably seems "appropriate" to you. Just like a rapist who thinks that the women that he raped, wouldn't get sexy any other way, or would never get better sex, then what they got from him, so he was just doing them a favor. Or a serial murderer who thinks that his victims deserved to die. Both the murderer and rapist would be 100% wrong, but you can be wrong without lying.

I never met Ghislaine Maxwell or Jeffrey Epstein, (I guess God has been looking out for me in this case) and I'm not a psychologist, but I'm thinking Maxwell hates prison so much right now, it's so different from her former life and she's been able to follow the news enough in prison, she clearly knew Donald Trump before he became President and maybe she thinks she has a credible dossier about him.

I think what Maxwell is thinking here is, that if she tells Trump.Inc everything they want to hear, including lying her head off to make The Donald look good here and risk future perjury charges against her from a different DOJ, that Trump DOJ will go easy on her and perhaps even let her out of prison well before her current release date. I think that's her play for freedom right now. And we'll see if it works or not."

As Doug Jones said so himself, (who is a career lawyer) Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche went to Ghislaine Maxwell's former prison (before she was moved to Club Fed) in Tallahassee, Florida, on behalf of his client, (of course not the American people. Don't be silly.) President Donald Trump John Trump, to ask Maxwell some of the most leading questions that she could possibly be asked:

"Did you ever see Donald Trump do anything inappropriate with Jeffrey Epstein?

Was Donald Trump ever aware of Mr. Epstein's sex trafficking operation?

How well did did Mr. Trump know Mr. Epstein?

How well did you know Mr. Trump before he became President?"

Those aren't the exact questions that DAG Blanche asked Maxwell, word for word. But those are the defense lawyer style questions that he asked her.

Imagine being a prosecutor and you have you the defendant on the witness stand and that person is on trial for sex trafficking and you have all the evidence in the world that you need to convict her... but there is 1 catch: you don't ask her to explain all the evidence against her, or try to catch her in a lie, or multiple lies. What you do instead is, declare her a hostile witness and ask her defense leading questions like:

"Do you think it's possible that the police and prosecutors just planted all this evidence against you?

Do you think that some disguised themself as you at all those sex parties?

Do you have an evil twin sister who was committing all these crimes and it was her doing all these things and not you?"

Of course the defendant would answer yes to all those questions, especially if they're coming from the prosecution and the person is a serial liar and they simply believe they can get off and convince the jury that they're completely innocent. That's what Mr. Blanche was doing to her on behalf of his client Donald J. Trump.

Go back to, I guess it was March, or early spring of 2017, Donald Trump had been President for about 2 months at that point and his Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, announces that he's staying out of the Russia campaign interference investigation, because he worked for the 2016 Trump Campaign and he believed that he had a conflict of interest. And at I think a cabinet meeting or press conference, the President was asked about that and he said something to the affect:

"The Justice Department is or should be like my own personal law firm and just represent my interests."

Well, President Trump has that now, thanks to Attorney General Pam Bondi and Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche, the 1st and 2nd officers at DOJ. Between the 2 of them, they're responsible for running that entire department. And they're simply doing that to defend the President's interests not much more.

Connell McShane: Donald Trump Goading JB Pritzker Into Confrontation: Geraldo Rivera

"As President Donald Trump and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker continue to trade barbs over the possibility of National Guard troops in Chicago, NewsNation contributor Geraldo Rivera says Pritzker may be taking Trump’s bait."

Source:News Nation talking to longtime talk show host and TV anchor, Geraldo (don't ever call me Gerry, if you know what's good for you) Rivera.

From News Nation

At risk of sounding like Chris Cuomo (who is also a News Nation anchor) and sound like I'm trying to have it both ways and agree with both sides here, or argue that "both sides are at fault", etc... I'm going to take that risk anyway and for this reason: Geraldo Rivera is right that this Federal takeover of big cities when it comes to their law enforcement, is a distraction for Democrats. But I just wouldn't use the language that he would used here.

I think the best way to describe Donald John Trump as a politician, is that he's a machine gun politician. Because the President is a machine gun politician, he can do so much damage, to so many people and things, including our most valuable and important institutions, that his opponents never have the time and resources to focus on every important bad thing that he does.

That's 1 way you can govern in this country with a 40% (give or take) approval rating and a 55% (give or take disapproval rating) because the people (at least anyone who pays attention to all his irresponsible nonsense) see 1 bad thing, or several at a time and simply don't have the time to get all the information that they need about every bad action that Machine Gun Trump takes.

The President can strike so many people and things and the exact same time, that his opponents, including Republicans, don't have the time or resources to focus on everything and leave out important issues, like the Federal takeovers of municipal police departments, when Democrats should really just be talking about Donald Trump's tariff driven, weak economy and his attempted coverup up the Epstein files. If Democrats leaders, including governors, were politically smart (and it never snowed in Chicago again) they would not put this police takeover aside... but what they would essentially say is something like:

"Our crimes rates are actually lower than what you see in rural red states and small towns. (On a per-capita base) We completely disagree with this Federal overreach here and we're going to see President Trump to court on this".

And move on to bigger and more important things, like the bad Trump economy and the coverup of the Epstein files.

But since since a lot of these Democratic politicians are so politically inept, (stupid, would be more accurate) and perhaps can only get elected in deep blue states like Illinois and can sound like dishwashers trying to give a lecture on how to perform brain surgery, or Donald Trump trying to give a lecture on aviation (which he actually tried to do) as far as how they practice politics, they get the media talking about how they much they dislike President Trump, as well as crime in big, blue cities... but also calling him every name in the book that they can possibly think of, while they're doing live press conferences. Which might be good for the left-wing, partisan base of the Democratic Party, but hurts them everywhere else, perhaps even with their own voters.
