Real Time With Bill Maher: David Hogg Interview

"HBO's 'Real Time' host Bill Maher interviewed DNC vice chair David Hogg about his ambitious agenda to reform the Democratic party. Maher asked Hogg why the Democratic party establishment is mad at him and called his ideas "basic Democratic stuff."

Source:Real Clear Politics with a look at the Vice Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, David Hogg.

From Real Clear Politics

So Bill Maher's first question for David Hogg (the Vice Chairman of the Democratic National Committee) is basically what is his job and role at the DNC. And Vice Chairman Hogg answered with this:

"So that job really helps to play a role in managing a lot of what the DNC focuses on, which is things like the presidential primary. It's helping to lead the campaign and waiting for the president. It's helping to manage the debate schedule and helping to support our state parties and local parties around the country.

It's a volunteer role, I should add, as well. So it's entirely a volunteer capacity. So nothing."

Mr. Hogg is obviously not a dumb guy... very young, green, plays the kid on TV very well, does a spot-on impression of a high school student council member. But not a dumb guy. But Maher is essentially trying to get from Mr. Hogg what he thinks the Democratic Party should be about. And what Hogg is basically doing here is outlining his own vision of what he thinks the Democratic Party should be, like he's the leader of the party, or America's official opposition leader, when he says:

"What I'm trying to do here is say, all right, we're going to light a fire under Democrats' asses to make sure that we are here to meet the moment that our country is in and show people how we are not just the party that is against Donald Trump, but we're a party that is here to provide an alternative vision for the future of this country. To show... To show, Bill...

To show how are we finding to make it so that people don't have to make impossible decisions. And this really became true to me last September when my father was on his deathbed with early onset Parkinson's disease. Despite being a Navy helicopter pilot with full VA benefits and a medically retired FBI agent, his cost of care at the end of his life was $19,000 a month.

And I had to make a spreadsheet to figure out how long we could afford to keep him alive. And the only reason why my family didn't go bankrupt is because my dad didn't live long enough for that to happen. And unfortunately, that's not a unique story in this country.

And there are so many people around this country that are having to make impossible decisions like that every day. And what I want the Democratic Party to be is the party that shows what are we doing to ensure that nobody has to make impossible decisions like that anywhere in the richest country on the planet. And what are we doing as well to fight back against the corruption that has broken this system, that has eviscerated the American dream?

And what are we doing to revive it?"

Even though Mr. Hogg made it very clear what's his role as Vice Chairman of the DNC, when he told Bill Maher:

"So that job really helps to play a role in managing a lot of what the DNC focuses on, which is things like the presidential primary. It's helping to lead the campaign and waiting for the president. It's helping to manage the debate schedule and helping to support our state parties and local parties around the country.

It's a volunteer role, I should add, as well. So it's entirely a volunteer capacity. So nothing."

He was acting like he's the party leader, or the leader of the left-wing Democrats in America.

Clint Eastwood's most famous role and I believe his best role, was as San Francisco Police Department Inspector Harry Callahan from those Dirty Harty films in the 1970s. 1 of the famous lines from those films is: "A man's got to know his limitations". Meaning, he has to know his role in life, why he's here, what he's supposed to be doing in life... is how I would translate that. To put it more modern pop culture vernacular: "A man has to know his lane".

When David Hogg is old enough, he can run for Governor of Florida and talk about his social democratic agenda for that state and how government should be used to take care of everyone. And if he gets elected Governor of Florida, as a Democrat, he could then run for President, where he would be a in a great position to talk about what the Democratic Party should be about and how he would lead it. But while you are literally just a volunteer for a national committee, at 1 of the 2 major political parties in America, your job is to help run that committee. Not to try to lead the Democratic Party yourself and layout exactly what the party should be about and what should stand for.

Real Time With Bill Maher: New Rule: Eat The Rich

"It wasn’t that long ago when liberals thought shooting people who don’t share your politics was bad – or at least a micro-aggression."

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher I guess is very hungry, politically.

From Real Time With Bill Maher

From what my colleague Rik Schneider wrote about Luigi Mangione back in December:

"If you are let's say a Baby Boomer (someone born in the 1940s or 50s) like a Bernard Goldberg, or older than that, or you are just someone with a solid understanding of American history, but are younger than a Boomer, then you are familiar with the militant far-left in America. Groups like The Weather Underground and the Symbionese Liberation Army, Students For a Democratic Society, and others from the 1960s and 70s.

These groups have always believed that progress is not enough and sometimes democracy is not enough to achieve their political objectives. And sometimes you need violence and undemocratic means to achieve their goals and you need to "take a strike at The Man", even if that means murdering people, to bring attention to the issues that these groups care about.

That's what Luigi Mangione was doing when he murdered United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson a few weeks ago. He was "striking out against The Man" to bring the attention to what the far-left sees as problems with the American health care system. They hate the facts that our health care system is private and for-profit.

So when a Luigi Mangione, or some other militant leftist comes along and does what this guy did and he also looks like he could be a Hollywood actor, or a boybander, they celebrate him as some type of a rockstar, doing what they only had the guts to do themselves...

As I wrote about Luigi Mangione back in December:

"But there's only 1 political faction in America that could possibly believe that killing a CEO of a health insurance company, simply because they are a health insurance CEO, and the killer thinks that person is part of the problem... if not a good idea, is perhaps justifiable homicide, or something.

And there's only 1 political faction in America that would make a murderer of a CEO a pop culture, rockstar, or something, and celebrating this man online and on social media and trying to profit off him with all the videos and the merchandise. And that would be far-left in America, which are made of of some Democratic Socialists, but militant Socialists, the WOKE Left, who believe that progress is never enough. Because it's the system that's the problem itself, who believe that we'll never achieve a "just and fair society", until we take down the system. Or as they would put it: "The Man".

To the WOKE Left in America, Luigi Mangione is a "totally awesome rockstar", who took a brig strike at "The Man". So they've been celebrating him, at least since he's been the news and they read his manifesto. But for the rest of the country, including people who also don't approve of our health care system, but who believe in the rule of law and who are pro-life in the real sense, (meaning people who believe in protecting innocent lives) Luigi Mangione is just another famous murderer in America. And unfortunately we've had too many famous murderers in America...

I guess I have a couple reactions to Bill Maher's monologue here. He basically said that:

"I remember a time when Liberals believed it was wrong to shoot people and use violence against people, simply for disagreeing with them".

Guess, what, Mr. Maher, Liberals still believe that. He called himself an "Old School Liberal" in the same monologue. What is an "Old School Liberal"? Someone who believes in liberalism. (In case that isn't obvious enough) Someone who believes in liberal values which comes from liberal democracy. Liberal values are free speech, personal autonomy, property rights, the rule of law, the Constitution, and in law & order in the real sense. Not the made up Nixonian sense.

So Maher calls himself an "Old School Liberal", but then makes the classic mainstream media mistake of equating Liberals with everyone and everything that is considered to be politically left, including left-wing militantism, whether it's Luigi Mangione or some other WOKE militant.

And my other reaction here has to do with fast food and Bill Maher essentially blaming fast food chains and perhaps even grocery stores for the obesity problem in America. Unless you've been kidnapped and were forced fed whoppers, big macs, candy bars, packaged cookies, etc, and then someone poured nothing but soft drinks and chocolate milk down your throat to wash the junk food down, you don't have anyone else to blame except for the person you see in the mirror (assuming you are small enough to be seen in your mirror) for being a fat ass.

I mean people blaming fast food joints and grocery chains, for their own obesity... I mean next alcoholics will be able to sue liquor stores and liquor companies for their alcoholism. I mean again, unless you were kidnapped and your kidnappers poured nothing but alcohol down your throat during your capture... who's to blame for your alcoholism? And if that's the case that your kidnappers forced you to drink nothing but 1 bottle after another of alcohol during your capture, maybe you should thank them. It probably made that experience for you better. Not that I'm making fun of kidnap victims.

Real Time With Bill Maher: 'New Rule: America, Love It Or Leave It'

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher telling American leftists to grow up.

"America has big problems, but it doesn't need quitters; it needs people who’ll stay and fix it."

I'll take these Bill Maher stories one at a time.

The so-called Progressive whose running for the state House of Representatives in New Hampshire:

She said she needs to "get the fuck out of this country" (meaning America) even though she's running for the state House of Representatives in New Hampshire. I guess she plans on campaigning and governing for New Hampshire, from Canada or oversees. I guess she would be an exiled state representative from New Hampshire.

I think her video and story speaks for itself. She doesn't know what she's talking about. You don't try to run for office in a country that you say, "you need to get the fuck out of" just like you don't fly to Hawaii, to take your vacation in Puerto Rico. (Unless the pilot of your plane is blind, drunk, and high, all at the same time) You don't drink beer, to give up alcohol. You don't smoke pot to give up cigarettes. If America is the hellhole (to keep it clean) as you say it is, why are you saying you need to "get the fuck out of here" while you are running for office here? Are you on the run from the law and hope to get elected to something, so you can pardon yourself? Perhaps you read Donald Trump's book on how to stay out of jail.

As far as Donald Trump saying that he's committing a huge sacrifice by running for President of the United States: "hard to write that without laughing" If he moved to France tomorrow, which is a country that seems to think is better than America, millions of Americans would volunteer to pack his bags for him and give him a kick on the ass as he boards his plane to leave America for France. Not only that, but the Federal charges would be dismissed, just as long as he doesn't run for President again and doesn't come back.

But come on, most of the times that Donald Trump speaks about anything, especially relating to himself, he doesn't even believe what he's saying. The only reason he's running for President again, is to stay out of prison. That's literally the only reason why he's running for President again. Along with locking up anyone whose ever worked against him the last 8 years.

And as far as the so-called left-wing or liberal celebrities who claim that America sucks so much and they'll move, if Donald Trump is elected President again:

there's no other place in the world where they would have it better than America. No other country where they would be as free, as rich, where the market for their brand of entertainment (if you want to call it entertainment) would be as big, as wealthy, as loyal to them, as America. And of course they already know all of this.

But when you are a professional celebrity, whether it's Miley Cyrus, George Lopez, Alec Baldwin, or anyone else, it's your personal popularity and your brand that you care about the most. And talking like a whacked-out, hate America leftist, sounds cool to young Americans. Even if no one actually believes you when you say anything. It's sounding and looking cool, style over substance, is what counts in the world of pop and celebrity culture, including politics and social media. Not what you actually believe and who you actually are.

Real Time With Bill Maher: 'New Rule: The Year of Sanity'

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher arguing for sanity in America. On next week's show. Bill Maher will argue for ice skating in the middle of the desert.

"The battle for the soul of America isn’t Right vs. Left. It’s Normal vs. Crazy."

I guess my serious response to Bill Maher here, is anytime you have a country as large and free, as well as diverse as America is, you are going to have a lot of crazy people in it. Let's face it, we don't even do a good job at the funding and managing the mental hospitals that we still have, let alone want to build more. And because of this, we have a lot of people who if they lived in a perfect world, (even in a perfect world that still has crazy people in it) these folks would probably be confined to mental hospitals.

Anytime you think that Hamas are freedom fighters and the people who were murdered in Israel back in October simply because they're Jewish, not because they're actually guilty of anything, but they're the real terrorists, or the king of reality TV assholes, is a major party presidential frontrunner, you are obviously in a short supply of sanity.

But in a country 320 million people, that's in between two of the largest oceans in the world, that's bordered by two of the largest countries in the world, there's only so much sanity to go around. But the need for it in America is still there. The question for it is how we as a country get enough of it, so at the very least America doesn't look like the world's largest outdoor insane asylum, where the patents are in control of the institution and the staff at the asylum is confined to the rubber rooms.

Real Time With Bill Maher: Overtime: Greg Lukianoff, Jane Ferguson, John Avlon

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher going into overtime.

"Bill and his guests continue their conversation after the show."

Just a few points about what they were talking about here and then I'll save you from hearing everything else that I think and know, for now.

As far as Hunter Biden, Bill Maher made the best point here. Actually, he made two great points. Maher said that there is one party that not only believes in the rule of law, but believes in it more than the other party.

Going back to the 1960s, at least, it's the Republican Party that's been stereotyped as the tough, law and order, rule of law party. But then the right-wing cult hero of right-wing cult heroes, took over what used to be the Grand Ole Party and what I at least would even argue use to be the Republican Party, in 2016 and is now just Donald Trump's MAGA Party, where their policy when it comes to the rule of law is: "It's not illegal when we do it. It's only illegal when Democrats and real Republicans who oppose us, do it."

John Avlon made an excellent point about that as well, where he said the indictment of Hunter Biden (whose just happens to be President Joe Biden's son) proves that we have the rule of law in America. We have a Democratic President and a Democratic run Department of Justice, that just indicted Hunter Biden on tax evasion and having illegal possession of firearms. And he looks pretty guilty on both counts and was even willing to plead guilty this summer, in exchange for a lighter sentence.

Bill Maher went onto say how these MAGA members (not real Republicans) are now comparing Hunter Biden with Donald Trump. With Maher making the quick comeback (and I'm paraphrasing) that you don't see mainstream Democrats defending Hunter Biden, or Senator Bob Menendez, for that matter and he's not the Democrat's hero.

As far as Vivek Ramaswamy, this is the first and hopefully the only time that I talk about him ever, at least until he grows up and perhaps takes and passes a course in social studies, as well as government and politics.

I think the only thing that explains his so-called presidential campaign (which is really just a poorly managed spinoff to Donald Trump's hit reality TV show Who Wants To Be President?) is that he's campaigning to be Donald Trump's Vice Presidential nominee. He's basically telling DJT: "I'm a bigger dick than you, even, and I know even less about government and public policy, than you, even. You have to pick me because we would be perfect together." And we'll see if that campaign works or not.

Real Time With Bill Maher: Overtime: James Carville & Dave Rubin

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher- left to right: The Rajun Cajun James Carville& The Liberal Jew David Rubin. (Not to get too ethnic)

"Bill and his guests continue their conversation about anti-Semitism, the U.S. economy, Christian nationalism and more."

As far as the Far-Right in America, (I'm tired of calling people who aren't religious Christian Nationalists) we can joke about them as much as we want and make fun of them all we want. Like the fact that they're from the 1800s culturally and as far as their mindset and got caught in some political, cultural, and national time machine and found themselves in the 21st Century, where it suddenly occurred to them that not all Americans are even Anglo-Saxon-Protestants, and they have some problem with that, along with all the other races, cultures, religions, and other ethnicities that make up America.

But, when political jokes get elected to high office in America and you have a party of political jokes not only getting elected to Congress, but The White House as well, but in such big numbers that now they're in charge of the national government, no decent, intelligent, sane, and sober American would still be laughing.

The old joke: "The problem with political jokes, is that they get elected." Once they're elected and in office and now have power to rule over people who are no longer laughing at them and now are thinking: "If only I had voted during that last election, I could've been laughing at this asshole on election night" it's no longer funny, because now you have all these mentally out of this world people, who not only have the power to govern, but to rule over other people.

MAGA, even the militant wing of the movement, is no real threat to America, as long as they're just getting elected in West Virginia and the rest of Redneckistan. (To keep it real) But once they start getting elected in places where not just mainstream Democrats should win, but win going away, like in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, etc, and in places where center-right Republicans should be getting elected, like in Arizona, Nevada, Ohio, New York State, etc, that's when MAGA becomes a threat to the rest of the country.

Outside of Redneckistan, (to keep it real) MAGA is just a small part of a much larger Republican Party. But once they start winning in the rest of America, where the rest of the country lives, like in cities, and metros, that's how they become a problem for the rest of the country. Because now they have the numbers to at least be in charge of the House of Representatives, but perhaps win back the Senate, and even The White House.

My point here is for every intelligent, responsible, sober, and sane American, who really loves America and our great liberal democracy and republic, make fun of MAGA all you want. But on election day make sure you are at least serious and sober enough to get out and vote and vote for the pro-American, anti-MAGA candidates, even if they're not from your political party. Because that's how we really "save America" and our republic and keep our great country from going back to the 1950s where MAGA wants to take us back.

Real Time With Bill Maher: Overtime: Donna Brazile & Adam Kinzinger

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher- left to right for people who are hard of seeing: Donna Brazile & Adam Kinzinger.

"Bill and his guests continue their conversation after the show."

There's not much here to go with, but there are a few points that were made in this segment that might keep people awake long enough to read this, which is what I'll talk about.

Adam Kinziner, whose one of the last of the true Conservative Republicans, (which is why I guess he's no longer in the U.S. House of Representatives) made an excellent point about Governor Ron DeSantis and predicting that Governor DeSanitis would be the next Republican to drop out of the Republican presidential race.

Kinzinger's argument is that Ron DeSantis's play was that Donald Trump would fall because of all the legal baggage and that even some MAGA Republicans (who aren't really Republicans, but that's a different story) would think that Trump can't win the general election, because of all the legal cases, the baggage, and evidence against DJT and that DeSantis would inherit those voters from Trump.

But as Kinzinger said (and they served in the House together in the 2010s) Ron DeSanitis is like the most boring person that you could possibly ever dream of meeting. No personality, not likable, etc. You can't win in Iowa, New Hampshire, probably South Carolina as well, which isn't as rural as the other states, but you can't win in those states if you are boring and unlikable.

The main problem that Ron DeSantis seems to have is that his message is basically: "I'm as interesting as a phonebook, I'm also an asshole, but I would make a good President." Which seems to be Ron DeSantis's message to the early Republican voters right now. Along with since Donald Trump has taken over the Republican Party, they've been losing, which is why they need a change. He's right about that, but he hasn't made the case for why he should be the next leader of that party.

Bill Maher's point about Joe Biden being that he's not too old to be President. He's just too old to get reelected President and its perception that voters care about and not reality. As I said on The New Democrat back in October:

"It's one thing to say that Joe Biden shouldn't run for reelection. But I didn't hear Bill Maher mention anyone who should run for President as the Democrat in the President's place. You can quote James Carville all you want, but Carville doesn't have a Democratic alternative to Trump either."

The only thing that I have to add to what I said back in October about Joe Biden's reelection possibilities is, to beat somebody, you have to have somebody or be somebody yourself.

If the Democratic Party really believed that Joe Biden is either too old to get reelected or too old to beat Donald Trump again, (even though he's still the only person whose ever beaten Donald Trump in any election) you would see a boatload of mainstream Democrats running against the the President right now.

What we have instead are just these boring, middle of the road Democrats, who don't really believe in anything, who are probably just trying to get more attention for themselves, raise more money for a future campaign, or just perhaps just secretly trying to sabotage the President because they don't like him. Or, professional conspiracy theorists, who aren't really Democrats or Republicans ideologically and don't know what else to do with their time right now.

I think people like David Axelrod, who really does believe that Joe Biden is a in political trouble right now, with concerns about his age and how low approval rating, really believe that Joe Biden could definitely lose right now and perhaps is even the underdog going in 2024.

But who beats the President a year from now? Some might say Nikki Haley, but she has to defeat Donald Trump 1st and get his voters behind her. Some might say Donald Trump, but he'll be a convicted a felon a year from now and probably bankrupt as well.

Are American voters (and I'm talking about Democrats, Independents, and center-right Republicans) who truly believe that Donald Trump, who a year from now will be a bankrupt, convicted felon, who  is a real threat to American democracy, freedom, and the republic, really want for President again, especially over someone who believes in those values that Donald Trump would try to destroy, if given the chance? I seriously doubt that because there's no evidence of that.

Real Time With Bill Maher: Senator Ted Cruz On The Rules of Democracy

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher- U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (Republican, Texas) visiting Planet Earth (for a change) to get some Real Time With Bill Maher.

"Republican Senator and "Unwoke" author Ted Cruz joins Bill Maher to discuss the dangerous idea that elections only count when your side wins."

At risk of sounding like I'm not the President of the Ted Cruz Haters of America, (I don't know whose the most unpopular member of Congress right now: Ted Cruz or Marjorie T. Greene) I've never liked the man, but when he was first elected to the Senate and perhaps during his first 4 years in the Senate, I thought to myself, Ted Cruz is a real Republican.

Pre-Donald Trump, Ted Cruz was somebody who believed in both civil liberties and property rights, as well as a limited foreign policy that wasn't designed to use the American military and tax dollars to try to police the world by ourselves. In the early and mid 2010s, pre-President Donald Trump, Ted Cruz was basically post-George W. Bush Neoconservative and post-Tea Party-Christian Nationalist. He was basically a Gen-X version of Barry Goldwater, a true constitutional Conservative.

But then Senator Cruz runs for President, essentially gets crushed by Donald Trump (just like everyone else in the Republican field) but does better than everyone else other than Trump. And after DJT becomes President, I guess to finally occurred to Senator Cruz that he's not just a Senator from Texas, but a Republican Senator from a Texas, in a party that no longer even believes in Republicanism, let alone the U.S. Constitution and that this is now the MAGA Nationalist party of America.

After DJT is elected President fairly and squarely (to use a 1950s phrase) Ted Cruz figures out that he needs to now get inline to kiss Donald Trump's ass in public and then pay him for giving the pleasure of kissing Donald Trump's ass, or go back to Texas work as lawyer for the rest of his career, because his political career would then be over.

In just 6 years, Ted Cruz goes from a Barry Goldwater constitutional Conservative, to an Alex Jones wannabe to makes his living, keeps his political career going as a political entertainer, who writes books, gives speeches, perhaps even writing articles, promoting pure bullshit.

We're talking a about a man in Ted Cruz whose a Harvard Law School grad, who also graduated from Princeton, who once worked for the Solicitor General of the United States, who perhaps was beaded to becoming a U.S. Federal Judge himself, perhaps Attorney General or U.S. Justice, who now promotes the idea that Joe Biden didn't win the 2020 presidential election. I mean if Ted Cruz was ever sued for defamation, he would probably admit under oath that he's an entertainer, who doesn't believe in most of the conspiracy theories that he promotes. Which is exactly what Alex Jones did last year in his lawsuit.

We're not talking about a dumb man or a crazy man, in Ted Cruz. The opposites are true. But what we're talking about is a professional bullshitter. The Alex Jones of Congress, at least in the Senate. They're plenty of Alex Jones wannabes in the House as well.

Real Time With Bill Maher: Monologue: Turning Back Time

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher.

"Bill reacts to the top stories of the week in his Real Time monologue."

I guess the two biggest stories, or two to biggest stories this week, (I don't have a list of the all the big stories this week) have to do not with Hamas so much, as they're getting their asses handed to them in Gaza by the Israeli military, but the fact that these 15th Century, murderous assholes, who have no respect for women, gays, minorities of all kinds, have an actual base of support from people in America and Europe, by people who claim that they care about women, gays, and minorities.

Imagine someone who says that they're a vegan, but they eat fish, they don't drink any alcohol, but they drink beer, they love and respect women, but they support organizations that they don't and the same thing with gays and minorities: how drunk, high, how crazy, how big of a coma would have to be, to even try to take those folks seriously?

Speaking of 15th Century "freedom fighters": how about the new Speaker of the House of Representatives Mike Johnson. I know I wrote that piece last week on the The New Democrat arguing that it's way too early to decide what kind of Speaker MAGA Mike, I mean Speaker Mike Johnson is going to be and we're only a week later from that.

Every new story so far, (he might be moderating on Ukraine) suggest that MAGA Mike is a freedom fighter from the Civil War or Jim Crow era, who wants to hire a Federal police squad, to lock people up for having consensual sex with someone from the same sex.

MAGA Mike doesn't even have a bank account, that anyone knows about, at least. What does he do with his taxpayer funded pay checks, that are worth around 5,000 dollars a week? Is this guy the Speaker of the House, or the gen-x version of Reverend Charles J. Southall, who was just convicted of money laundering, who only presides over the House as a 2nd job and career?

Real Time With Bill Maher: The MAGA Party

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher- FNC anchor Jessica Tarlov.

"Jessica Tarlov and Scott Galloway join Bill to discuss the threat posed to democracy by the GOP's embrace of Christian nationalism."

I hate to sound like a traffic cop whose always telling people to slow down, or even a political traffic cop, whose telling people they need to think about this and hold off a little bit, before reaching a final conclusion on this, because that's like considered so old school in today's modern 24 hour, pop political culture, where everything is about trending on social media and so-forth, but we don't know who Speaker Mike Johnson is.

We should wait on him and see what his Speakership will be like, a few months even, before we decide to call him MAGA Mike, or just plain Speaker Mike Johnson, because he's actually doing the job as Speaker and not trying to act like the next lord and savior of the MAGA movement, perhaps even replacing their national cult hero, also known as Donald J. Trump.

We know who U.S. Representative Mike Johnson is, before he became Speaker of the House. And to paraphrase former U.S. Representative Adam Kinzinger, who is now a political commentator for CNN, Mike Johnson when they were in the House together during the last decade, he would tell you that Representative Johnson was a center-right, establishment Republican, who would work others in order to pass positive legislation.

But then Superstorm Donald hit the Republican Party and it just occurred to Johnson, that he represents Shreveport, Louisiana in the House, which is one of the state capitals of the MAGA movement and he figured he needed to be The Donald of Shreveport, to keep his job and to advance in the Republican Party. Which is exactly what he did when he personally represented former President Trump when Trump got impeached for the 2nd time in 2021 and he represented Trump at the 2nd Senate trial. And of course was personally involved in the Trump's Campaign to try to overturn the certified 2020 presidential election as well.

I'm not saying that Speaker Mike Johnson is not MAGA Mike, because he could very well be MAGA Mike, which is what Representative Matt Gaetz (whose not as politically braindead, as he seems to want people to believe) calls him. I'm just saying that there are other things and possibilities that people need to think about here and also take a lesson from fairly recent political history and at least consider this before making up their minds on the new Speaker.

Go back to the mid 1990s and the House Minority Whip Newt Gingrich, when he was campaigning for House Republicans to win back the House in 1994. Newt was as wildcard, and right-wing populist as Matt Gaetz is today. Most establishment Republicans didn't like Newt either.

But then Newt becomes Speaker and realizes that there's still a Democratic President and for him and House Republicans to get anything done, for any of their agenda, their Contract With America to actually become law, they would not just have to be able to work with President Bill Clinton, but have to work with Senate Republicans, who tend to be more moderate anyway, because they represent entire states and not just gerrymandered House districts. And he might have to work with at least some so-called moderate House Democrats, just to get their bills out of the House. And look at the results of the Gingrich Speakership, at least from a Republican perspective:

Welfare To Work

Balanced budgets

Entitlement reform

Tax cuts

Line item veto

All of these proposals were part of the Gingrich Contract With America from 1994 and all of them became law, by the time that Newt Gingrich left the House by the end of 1998. And none of this happens, if he doesn't work with not just so-called moderates in the House Republican Conference, but Senate Republicans, as well as President Clinton.

I'm just saying there's another road for Speaker Johnson to take, that he could take, if he wants to be remembered as a Speaker who did something besides become the highest ranking member of the MAGA movement, in the Republican Party, as well as the 3rd ranking officer in the entire U.S. Government.

If Mike Johnson is just MAGA Mike, that's all he'll be and we can expect another year of:

government shutdowns

government defaults

no appropriations bills

no budgets being passed

the House almost in complete gridlock, because of how tight the Republican majority still is, and with their inability to even work with their own members, let alone House Democrats,

with House Republicans, especially the 20-30 House Republicans who'll have nothing positive to run for reelection on, who are endangered of losing their House seats next year to Democrats

and Democrats winning back the House as a result, because American voters are fed up with the gridlock and want their government working and representing their interests again.

Or we could see Mike Johnson become Speaker Johnson and decide to work with what's left of the center-right in his own conference, as well as Senate Democrats, and The White House, to keep the government running and operating as it's supposed to be and create some real positive change in a bipartisan way. Or he could decide after he becomes Speaker of the House, that he's nothing but another MAGA soldier, but who now has a speaker's gavel. But it's too early for this. Let's see where the House is in a few months from now.

Real Time With Bill Maher: 'New Rule: Don't Go To College'

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher- going after illiberal (not liberal) education in America.

"In his editorial New Rule, Bill warns that college life has become a day spa combined with a North Korean reeducation camp, where students are indoctrinated into a stew of bad ideas."

I'm just glad that Bill Maher called these Ivy League schools (which is another way of saying Communist training camps) illiberal, (which means not liberal) because that's exactly what they are.

A real liberal education is:

"The American Association for the Advancement of Science describes a liberal education in this way: "Ideally, a liberal education produces persons who are open-minded and free from provincialism, dogma, preconception, and ideology; conscious of their opinions and judgments; reflective of their actions; and aware of their place in the social and natural worlds."[4] Liberally educated people are skeptical of their own traditions; they are trained to think for themselves rather than conform to higher authorities.[5]

It also cultivates "active citizenship" through off-campus community service, internships, research, and study abroad.[6] Some faculty see this movement towards "civic engagement" as more pedagogically powerful than traditional classroom teaching, but opponents argue that the education occurring within an academic institution must be purely intellectual and scholarly.[7]

A liberal education combines an education in the classics, literature, the humanities, moral virtues, and others...

From Wikipedia

To put all of this in English: with a liberal education, you are taught how to think and how to obtain facts and information. You are not taught what to think, but instead taught about the important facts and subjects, including history (a word that young people today might not even be able to spell, let alone define) but you are not taught to think what those facts mean. You are instead given the freedom to think for yourself.

If you are someone like me or are older, (and I'm a gen-xer) you are least remember the last 10-15 years of the Cold War. I only mention that because during the American-Russian Cold War we got to hear about Communist indoctrination camps, where people were grabbed up like Russia, China, North Korea, and other Communist states during the Cold War and taught not just how to think and what to think. Like America and it's western, democratic, developed, allies being the real Evil Empire and not the Soviet Union. They were taught how to be Communists and learned about the opposites being the real facts in life.

I'm not calling all Ivy League and other elite Northeast and West Coast college professors Communists, for the simple fact that I believe a lot of them are just professional bullshitters, who don't believe most of their propaganda. Who think that it's cool to talk down to America, especially when they're with young people and believe teaching people the opposites of life, makes them cool. And they teach their students that:

capitalism is racist

personal freedom is dangerous

free speech is bigoted

America is the real Evil Empire and terrorist state

liberal democracy is the real threat to world peace

and today the Jewish State of Israel is the real terrorist state and that Hamas are simply just freedom fighters (hard to say that without laughing) who are simply trying to kick out the illegal invaders, meaning the Israeli Jews.

The reason why I call these elite universities professional bullshitters, it's not just they don't believe a lot of what they actually teach and say. While they're putting America and it's allies down, they're living the good life in America, loving their personal and economic wealth, taking advantage of every tax break that they can get, and there isn't another country in the world where they rather live.

If you are going to send your kids to college, send them somewhere where they're taught the facts of life and how to think. Not left-wing or right-wing propaganda. Send them to a school where they're free to think and act of themselves and not taught that they have to be part of some larger collective, to live a good, moral, life.

Real Time With Bill Maher: 'New Rule: Ruth Bader Biden'

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher- saying that Joe Biden is now Ruth Bader Ginsberg.

"Someone has to convince President Biden that if he runs again, he’s going to turn the country back over to Trump and go down in history as Ruth Bader Biden."

Imagine if we lived in a perfect world and while you are at that, also imagine that you have your own personal time machine, that you didn't even have to order online, or even pay for a shipping charge, let alone have to pay for the time machine itself. Wait, you now you live in a perfect world, so you no longer need a time machine. But if you live in a perfect world, everything that Bill Maher said about it's time for Joe Biden to go, might not only make sense, be believable, but he might even be correct. But Bill Maher would be one of the first people (at least on Planet Earth) to tell you that we don't live in a perfect world.

You can show me all the polls in the Democratic Party that suggest that President Biden shouldn't run for reelection and that Donald Trump might actually beat him. But for me at least to even take those polls seriously, you need someone besides a professional conspiracy theorist, whose in the same age range and generation as both Donald Trump and Joe Biden, to not only announce their own presidential campaign, but show polling that suggests that they could not just beat Joe Biden, but then beat Donald Trump next year as well.

Some might say that well no one else besides Robert F. Kennedy JR. (who struggles just to put words together, let alone sentences) has announced their own campaign against President Biden, someone who struggles just to get on the state ballots, in Democratic states, of all places, let alone struggles to get 15% of the vote against Joe Biden, because they don't want to divide the Democratic Party. Well if that's the case, then why are they talking about Joe Biden needs to step down, so some other Democrat can step up. Joe Biden is still around 90% in the Democratic Party and in the low 40s nationally, as well has a coalition of Republican voters who once again would vote for him against Donald Trump.

You can't think that all the new legal cases, the indictments, all the financial trouble that Donald Trump is facing, is helping him with Independents, a group that he lost overwhelmingly to Joe Biden in 2020. As Max Boot said on CNN last week (and I'm paraphrasing) the choice is not between the perfect and imperfect. The choice here is between Joe Biden and Donald Trump. The choice is between a good, honest, man, who believes in the United States, believes in liberal democracy, believes in the rule of law, and our checks and balances, versus someone who doesn't believe in those liberal democratic, America values, whose running for President simply to get himself out of legal jeopardy and clear is allies that are also in legal jeopardy as well, who wants to operate and live about the law.

It's one thing to say that Joe Biden shouldn't run for reelection. But I didn't hear Bill Maher mention anyone who should run for President as the Democrat in the President's place. You can quote James Carville all you want, but Carville doesn't have a Democratic alternative to Trump either.

What we learned during the Barack Obama years is that the Democratic Party is not good at developing its bench or its farm system, at least at the national level. They're not good at grooming people to take over and become the next leader of the Democratic Party, let alone the next President of the United States. And if you look at approval ratings even in the Democratic Party of Vice President Kamala Harris, someone who I do personally approve of and think she's been good for President Biden, as far as running his administration, but perhaps not politically, the Democratic Party still doesn't have any alternative to President Biden.

So it's either stick with Joe, or Joe drops out and we see a Democratic free for all, between left-wing Democrats who'll promise the world to everybody and tell everyone it won't cost anything. Versus center-right Democrats who will try to run a general election campaign during the Democratic primaries, but when they think they need more Democrats, while try to talk like they're actually leftists, leaving everybody to believe who is this person and why do they actually believe. Versus The Devil in Donald Trump, with American voters probably choosing The Devil that they already know, over the Democrat.

Real Time With Bill Maher: 'New Rule, How The Left Was Lost'

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher- telling the Far-Left in America to grow up.

"Bill slams this ridiculous new era of mind-numbing partisanship, where simply speaking truth to your own party can make you an instant hero to the other side."

Because of America's crazy and outdated two-party system, you have two, large, political parties in America, that have two crazy factions in it. Which means you have a Democratic Party that believes in both liberal democracy, quality of opportunity, equal rights, and equal justice, as well as personal freedom is dangerous, capitalism is racist, free speech is bigoted, minorities and women should be treated better than the majority population and Caucasian men. Because the Democratic Party has a Center-Right and Center-Left, that believes in liberal values that I mentioned before and a Far-Left that believes in the crazy values that I just mentioned.

So America has a Democratic Party that looks and acts like the adults in the room, but only because they are the adults in the room. Who tend to run the Democratic Party and don't need a gerrymandered district to get elected to anything, who can not just get elected statewide in swing states, but who can get elected statewide in Democratic states. (Where Far-left Democrats can't, like in California) And a Far-Left that really should be in the Green Party (when they're not occupying mental institutions) who can't get elected anywhere, to anything, that doesn't just have an overwhelmingly Democratic population, but left-wing Democratic population.

I'm not saying America should have a parliamentary political system, because that would make me a crazy leftist as well. But the two-party system is why America has a Democratic Party that has two political factions that simply don't agree on much, because the Far-Left has nowhere else to go, because they represent such a small percentage of the country. And the Green Party is simply to small for them to get elected to anything, that's worth anything in America.

Real Time With Bill Maher: 'Monologue: Time's Up for Governor Cuomo'

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher- talking about the downfall of Governor Andrew Cuomo (Democrat, New York)

"Bill recaps the top issues of the week, including Barack Obama's birthday plans and the growing pressure on NY Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign."

At risk of stating the obvious, which I can assure you this is not the first time I've taken this risk: Governor Andrew Cuomo had to resign. He literally had no choice, because it was either that or he gets impeached convicted his own party in the New York Legislature (Assembly and Senate) and he would be like the Richard Nixon of New York (for anyone who was born in the 20th Century, or remembers hearing about it) where his own party leadership tells him: "Dude, we don't even want you as Governor anymore. Leave now and we won't kick your ass out."

Now having said all that: if you look at the politics of this, now the new Governor Kathy Hochul will have a clean slate and be able to run for Governor herself next year and not with a thousands pounds of baggage that New York Democrats would have to carry around with them every time, including when they try to catch a flight or even go to the bathroom.

New York Republicans will have to try to run on their own records and perhaps even away from Donald Trump (like the Japanese tried to run from Godzilla) if they're running statewide. And have to try to convince New York voters, even upstate voters of why they're better qualified to run the New York Government, than the Democrats. So the Cuomo resignation could become a political boomerang.

Real Time With Bill Maher: 'About Young People in Communism'

Source:Clowns In My Coffee- S.E. Cupp must work real hard to look adorable wearing thick glasses. And that work has paid off.

"Young people’s respect for elders, poll results on communism and defunding the police."

"The Lost Generation was the social generational cohort that came of age during World War I. "Lost" in this context refers to the "disoriented, wandering, directionless" spirit of many of the war's survivors in the early postwar period.[1] The term is also particularly used to refer to a group of American expatriate writers living in Paris during the 1920s.[2][3][4] Gertrude Stein is credited with coining the term, and it was subsequently popularized by Ernest Hemingway who used it in the epigraph for his 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises: "You are all a lost generation".[5][6]

In a more general sense, the Lost Generation is considered to be made up of individuals born between 1883 and 1900.[7] The last surviving person that was known to have been born in the 19th century, Nabi Tajima, died in 2018...

From Wikipedia

The Wikipedia link I believe could easily be transferred over to the Millennial Generation, because I believe we're talking about a generation of Americans that don't seem to know what they want (other than being cool and popular) and don't seem to know where they are going.

I mean we're talking about a generation of Americans that thinks socialism is cool and claim to hate capitalism (even as they are the biggest subsidizers and customers of American capitalism in American history) while they're staking out electronics stores to get whatever the latest gadgets are. Millennials seem to live in coffee houses, (perhaps because they can't afford their own place to live) who claim the they can't get though the day without their Starbucks, (or whatever their coffee house of choice is) get into car accidents because they can't put their I-phones downs. I mean at risking of sounding old (which to a Millennial is anyone 40 or over) if this isn't a lost generation, that term has no meaning.

I believe every large generation (at least in my lifetime) has a period like this and I believe new technology makes it more obvious. Baby Boomers thought socialism and communism were cool in the 1960s. But then parents kicked them out, because they were stinking up their basements and it suddenly occurred to them that they need real jobs and that maybe communism isn't so cool or groovy anymore and that capitalism and liberal democracy is still way to go.

The Boomers finally mentally grew up in the 1970s and 80s and turned out to be one of, if not the most productive generations that we've ever had. Hopefully the light will go on with Millennials as well as they get smarter with more experience.

Real Time With Bill Maher: 'New Rule: Progressophobia'

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher- on left-wing bedwetters and doom and gloomers.

"Where progress has been made, it’s not a sin – and it’s certainly not inaccurate – to say we’ve come a long way, baby. Not mission accomplished. Just a long way. "

The only thing that I disagree with Bill Maher’s editorial here is the word Liberal. Replace Liberal with leftist, hippie, hipster, left-wing propagandist, faddist, and of course the usual suspects, Socialist and Communist and I believe his editorial is perfect and damn right.

Back in the 1980s, there was a term for Far-Left Democrats who viewed the perfect as the enemy of the good and could never accept real progress in America, because whatever the situation was, it wasn’t perfect in their view. I believe Democratic political strategist Bob Beckel (speaking of lefties) coined the term Doom and Gloom Democrats as the term for hyper-partisan, Far-Left Democrats who could never admit to real progress, because the situation wasn’t perfect in their view.

The more modern term for Doom and Gloom Democrats is bedwetting liberals. I call them bedwetting leftists, but you’re talking about folks who always find that one cloud in the sky on a gorgeous, warm day.

If leftists liked sports (other than soccer and figure skating) and were head coaches, their team could win a game 28-0 and instead talking about that, they would mention the 5 penalties that their team made or the fact that their opponent almost scored on the last possession of the game. And not the mention that their team won 28-0 and played a great game on both sides of the ball.

As far as Kevin Hart: I rarely talk about entertainers at all when it comes to current affairs and politics, but only because they are entertainers. Except when these so-called Hollywood leftists or rightists are being hypocritical.

Entertainers whether it’s Kevin Hart or anyone else, are in the business of popularity and when they’re successful, they have large followings generally of young hipsters, who tend to be pretty left-wing (at least publicly) and for entertainers to keep their followers, they always have to bee seen as cool with those folks. Even if that means saying ridiculous things (to be overly generous on a good day) and risk giving up their credibility to keep or add to their popularity. So I don’t tend to take Kevin Hart or any other entertainer seriously when it comes to current affairs.

But other than the word Liberal, I believe that Bill Maher make a great point here and delivers a great editorial. And some might say he’s an entertainer and I would give them an A for being obvious on that one, but he has a long track record of consistency when it comes to his own politics and uses humor very well to make his serious points.

Real Time With Bill Maher: 'Government By Mad Leftists'

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher- On last week in politics and government
"Bill recaps the top stories of the week, including racist rhetoric from President Trump and the second round of Democratic debates."

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher

I don't get the title of Bill Maher's piece since is has basically nothing to do with government really other than the current administration. So I guess I'll just focus on the monologue itself.

How about go back to your own country: President Donald Trump, is the son of first generation German immigrants on his father side and his mother is literally from Scotland. Which the last time I checked is still part of the United Kingdom, not the United States. So that alone should get you thinking about why would a 1st generation American be telling other Americans where 3-4 of them are born in America, to go back home. Hey Don, why don't you back home to Scotland or Germany, assuming those countries will take you back, or haven't deported you! Which is my answer to go back home.

The budget deal: this was covered here by this blog the last two weeks, but how about the death of fiscal conservatism, which sounds like a title of the book. Maybe the GOP should stand for Grand Old People, who borrow and spend way too much of other people's money. Because now the Republican Party is short of constitutional conservatives, fiscal conservatives and Christian-Conservatives, who've actually even read The Ten Commandments, let alone actually understand them.

As far as the debates from last week: I have a pice of advice for Democrats who are looking to break through, but haven't already: if you don't have a positive message that connects with Democratic voters, don't try to make a name for yourself by attacking the other Democrats. Don't be the blocker in the auto race who knows he can't win the race, but happens to be on the same team with the guy who can win the race and what you do instead is try to block the competition from winning.

The more Democrats attack other Democrats in the primary election, the easier the eventual nominee will be to beat by the Republican National Committee and the Trump Campaign. They'll say: "see, his Democratic opponents had real issues with him as a candidate." Or it could be a hers, who knows. So if you're not getting through by now because Democrats don't know you or like you, ( or both ) find a positive message that actually connects, or do the party and country a favor and get the hell out. Leaving Democrats with only 10-12 choices for President, instead of 20.

Hire the best people: almost every time I hear Donald Trump speak about anything, the more convinced I am that English is not his first language. ( Perhaps its German or Gaelic ) He seems to have his own personal definition every time he speaks. According to The Donald, hiring the best people which was just one of his many promises as President, means hiring the people who are most loyal to him, who do the best on TV, know the least, have the fewest qualifications, don't even have the balls to question power, let alone actually do that. His latest pick for Director of National Intelligence, which is not exactly the chief janitor position at the CIA, is the perfect example of that.

Real Time With Bill Maher: 'Monologue: Banana Republicans'

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher- when he's right, he's damn right.
“Bill recaps the top stories of the week, including the House GOP’s controversial decision to release “The Memo.”

From Real Time With Bill Maher

Watching CNN yesterday afternoon as I was working ( of course ) they were obviously covering the release of the Devin Nunes memo and they had Robert Baer on who was a career CIA intelligence officer before he retired several years ago that Donald Trump probably sees as some Marxist-Communist member of the so-called Deep State. Communists working for the CIA is about as common as Muslims and Latinos voting for Donald Trump in Alabama.

But that being said, Bob Baer was on CNN yesterday talking about the memo and he called it a piece of trash. Now, if he was part of HBO’s special coverage of the Nunes memo or Showtime, he probably would’ve called it a piece of shit, because that is exactly what it is. All it is, is Trumpian talking points about the FBI and broader intelligence community in America and this conspiracy theory that Donald Trump and his supporters have that the intelligence community is out to get President Trump.

When Bill Maher calls these Trump supporters of the House Banana Republicans, he ain’t lying. These House Republicans on the Intelligence Committee ( of all places ) see themselves now as defense lawyers and operatives for the White House.

These intelligence reports and in Representative Devin Nunes’s case the ( Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee ) unintelligent memo that a seventh grader could’ve edited for their parents and found real holes in it, is nothing more than RNC/White House talking points. That says you have to back President Trump at all costs even if it makes you look like an idiot, or worse a liar, worse than that a corrupt defense lawyer.

This is not one of those partisan squabbles that you see all the time in Washington especially in Congress with Republicans and Democrats looking like they’re fighting each other and accusing each other of cheating in a pickup basketball game or at recess. This is a Republican inter party squabble between House Republicans teaming up with the White House, against the Republican led and mostly Republican intelligence community. Washington Republicans vs. the CIA and FBI.

Representative Devin Nunes who has one of the most important jobs in all of Congress as Chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, is nothing more than a hack defense lawyer for President Donald Trump. Nunes is a man that the House of Representatives is supposed to rely on for fair and accurate intelligence reports and oversight of the intelligence community. But what does he do instead? Go out of his way to make the intelligence community unfairly look bad because they have negative information about President Trump and his presidential campaign and it now looks like they were working with Russians to get Donal Trump elected President. So they’ve decided they have to make the intelligence community look bad at all costs so President Trump doesn’t take them down in 2018.

Real Time With Bill Maher: Monologue: Sweet Home Alabama

Source:Real Time With Bill Maher talking about the political situation in Alabama.
Source:The Daily Review

I'm not from Alabama and have never even actually spent a day in Alabama, but I get two things out of this story. One, that this behavior (assuming Roy Moore is guilty) is actually normal and if Roy Moore wasn't running for the U.S. Senate, maybe it wouldn't have become news. I mean, you had Republican leaders in that state saying what Moore is accused of are gifts from Good and natural acts. I'm paraphrasing, but thats pretty close.

That if Moore wasn't the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate that this story would have never come out. The women wouldn't have come out because no one in Alabama including the media there, would have taken them seriously, let alone bothered to look into the allegations. Once Roy Moore not just declared his candidacy for the U.S. Senate and then won the GOP nomination, is when this story became a national story.

The Senate is part of Congress obviously and a Federal institution and not many people more powerful in the country than a U.S. Senator. And not many institutions covered more closely than Congress, because of how important it is. Which is why you had a Washington Post reporter covering a Alabama Senate race in Alabama and the women going to The Post to talk about their allegations. Now, if Roy Moore was running for State Senate in Alabama representing Gadsden, Alabama, then this story wouldn't be a big deal. Again, we wouldn't have heard from the women because they wouldn't have been taken seriously. And again, to go back to Alabama as a state, this behavior seems to at least be acceptable to the Christian-Right there. Which is more of a religious cult than anything else.

The other thing that I get from the Roy Moore story is that this is Alabama. Anyone left to wonder the Alabama is seen as a backwards redneck neanderthal state that was in a statewide coma during most of the 20th Century and would only come out of their coma to prevent African-Americans from exercising their constitutional rights as American citizens. So of course a lot of Alabama is not aware of what has been going on in America in the last ten years or so, let alone the 20th Century, because they still believe America is in a pre-civil war area. And that women should be nothing more than servants to men. So why not teenage girls being servants to men and their sexual needs. At least this is the perception of Alabama and not just for Washington, or New York, or San Francisco, but Atlanta and a lot of the state of Georgia which is a neighbor of Alabama.
