Michael Smerconish: James Carville: Donald Trump Collapse Happened Quicker Than I Imagined

"Legendary Democratic strategist James Carville discusses his bold prediction on the "massive collapse" unfolding inside the Trump administration and how Democrats should respond."

Source:CNN talking to the father of the modern political rope-a-dope strategy: James Carville.

From CNN

From The New Democrat back in February on this very issue:

"Democratic strategist James Carville called on Democrats to make a "strategic political retreat" in a guest essay for The New York Times on Tuesday, telling members of his party "to play dead."

"Allow the Republicans to crumble beneath their own weight, and make the American people miss us. Only until the Trump administration has spiraled into the low 40s or high 30s in public approval polling percentages should we make like a pack of hyenas and go for the jugular. Until then, I’m calling for a strategic political retreat," he wrote.

"With no clear leader to voice our opposition and no control in any branch of government, it’s time for Democrats to embark on the most daring political maneuver in the history of our party: roll over and play dead," the strategist continued.

"Carville compared his suggestion to a "tactical pause," and argued the Democrats needed to stop regularly playing defense against the Trump administration's actions.

"It’s a vision move — get out of the hour-to-hour, day-to-day combat where one side (ours) is largely playing defense and struggling to defend politically charged positions (like explaining D.E.I. or persuading voters to care about foreign aid), and take time to regroup, look forward and make decisions about where we want to get to over the next two years," Carville said.

He said Americans were likely not waiting around for lawmakers and commentators to make the same old arguments to criticize the president.

"They’re tired of it, and our Democratic voters are tired of watching us moan and groan to cover up our impotency out of power. They want us to be smarter than that," he added."

And my response to that:

"When you see your arch-enemy is drowning in the ocean. don't throw them a lifeline. Let them drown.

When you see your arch enemy's house is on fire and no one is there to do anything about it, don't even offer to spit on the fire, let alone dump your own water on it, or call 911. Just let the house burn down.

Let MAGA burn our national house down. Hopefully they don't destroy the country. But don't help them do that, or try to get in their way, outside of what's going on in the courts and at the state level. Show American voters this is exactly who you voted for and the consequences of that fateful decision. And tell them and show them there's a better way on the campaign trail and why you deserve to be in power again."

From The New Democrat 2 weeks ago:

"Along with all these organic and peaceful protests that are happening mostly outside of Washington and at the grassroots level, and the townhalls. That's how you defeat Donald Trump and MAGA, Instead of reminding voters why they don't like you either and voted against you in 2024, you just keep the focus on why they don't like Donald Trump and MAGA and make the case why they shouldn't be allowed to govern at all when their terms are up and speak out against them in unity."

No offense to Michael Smerconish (who I do have some respect for because at least he talks about interesting issues) and I don't pretend to be a professional media critic by any means... but you can see why he's never been a correspondent for Ted Koppel's Nightline, or for 60 Minutes, Meet The Press, etc. You don't get any followups from him (at least in this interview) and you get a lot of softball, mainstream media questions from him like:

Michael Smerconish: "So, Harry -- Harry Enten, I really respect his opinion. He crunches numbers for us here at CNN. And he spoke to Trump and right track, wrong track numbers. Let's roll the clip and then have James respond. Go ahead.

HARRY ENTEN, CNN CHIEF ANALYST: All we talk about is how unpopular Donald Trump is. But in reality, he's basically more popular than he was at any point in term number one and more popular than he won election back in November of 2024.

When you wrote in "The Times" and you spoke of rolling over and playing dead, you said, allow the Republicans to crumble beneath their own weight and make the American people miss us.

But if the approval rating of the Democratic Party is at 29 percent, according to CNN's data, who's missing Democrats right now? They might be upset with Trump, but who is really missing the Democrats?

OK. Still -- still staying --

He says, the Democratic brand is toxic right now. What are Democrats doing to fill the vacuum or the void that Trump is leaving open?

Final comment. This comes from a critique to your "Times" op-ed of a month ago, the Muhammad Ali, the rope-a-dope strategy. Put this on the screen."

And these are just Michael Smerconish's points from his interview with James Carville on Saturday, from CNN

I mean Smerconish could've gotten his questions from his local newspaper. Or worst... someone's Twitter feed. Not a lot of research and preparation for his interviews. A lot of straight, belt-high fastballs, at around 90 miles an hour, over the middle of the plate, that Carville whacked out of the park for home runs. Yes, it's baseball season.

I know the mainstream media wants to talk about how unpopular the Democratic Party is right now... at least the journalists who are worried about potential backlash they may get from Donald Trump and his administration. But the Democratic Party is not in charge right now.

To paraphrase James Carville: political parties are in the business to win elections... period. Not to be popular. And they do that with the candidates that they recruit, nominate. And then you win elections by getting more votes than your opponents. And the Democratic Party as of right now is not in charge of anything in Washington, at the Federal level. It's not their job to be popular. Their job is to beat Republicans in every elections that they can.

And as Jame Carville told Michael Smerconish:

Mr. Carville talking about the Trump Administration: "Well, what tense are we in? Is it collapsing or has it collapsed? That's the only argument to have.

And I was wrong. I said, Memorial Day. It's before April Fool's day which the Trump administration should make a national holiday because it's so accurately represents who they are. So, I'm not really -- no one -- do not argue with me".

I mean when you are running against an April Fools Day administration and political party... how popular do you have to be? The better question there is: how much smarter do you have to be than a daily fool and joke? The Democrat:

"You might not like me. But at least I'm not a fool.

I don't share classified information with journalists.

I don't claim that tariffs pay for themselves, or the other country would just pay the higher prices.

I don't have drunks working for me... or Russian contacts... or people with enemies lists running the FBI".

And Mr. Smerconish can talk about all he wants that he's more popular now than he was 8 years ago at this time... the key point is the President is still unpopular. More to the point: his polices are even less unpopular. 37% approval on the economy... you have to go back to G.W. Bush in 2008 to find a Republican President who was doing worst on the economy politically.

President Trump is unpopular on the economy primarily because his own small town rural base (the heartbeat of the modern Republican Party) is paying the higher prices for basic necessities because of his tariffs.

Trump 2017 vs Trump 2025: he might more popular now, but he was in the low 40s at this time 8 years ago, when he had only been President for 2 months at that point. I mean the idiot can say he's more intelligent than the moron. But is that even worth mentioning?

Jesse Dollemore: Donald Trump EXPLAINS PLAN FOR ILLEGAL 3RD TERM – “I’m Not Joking!

"Jesse discusses Donald Trump’s third-term plans and the methods by which he will illegally be President again. He tells Kristen Welker that he isn’t actually joking, and they are working out how they will violate the Constitution to achieve their goals."

Source:Jesse Dollemore talking about DJT can look & sound when someone spikes his Diet Coke.

From Jesse Dollemore

From NBC News:

"President Donald Trump did not rule out the possibility of seeking a third term in the White House, which is prohibited by the Constitution under the 22nd Amendment, saying in an exclusive interview with NBC News that there were methods for doing so and clarifying that he was “not joking.”

“A lot of people want me to do it,” Trump said in a Sunday-morning phone call with NBC News, referring to his allies. “But, I mean, I basically tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s very early in the administration.”

“I’m focused on the current,” Trump added, in some of his most extensive comments to date about serving a third term.

When asked whether he wanted another term, the president responded, “I like working.”

“I’m not joking,” Trump said, when asked to clarify. “But I’m not — it is far too early to think about it.”

When asked whether he has been presented with plans to allow him to seek a third term, Trump said, “There are methods which you could do it.”

NBC News asked about a possible scenario in which Vice President JD Vance would run for office and then pass the role to Trump. Trump responded that “that’s one” method.

“But there are others, too,” Trump added.

Asked to share another method, Trump simply responded “no.”

Amending the Constitution to abolish the two-term limit would be exceedingly difficult, requiring either a two-thirds vote of Congress or two-thirds of the states agreeing to call a constitutional convention to propose changes. Either route would then require ratification from three-quarters of the states.

The president pointed to his poll numbers, saying that “a lot of people would like me to” hold office for a third term.

Trump has previously commented on running for a third term in office, though Republicans have seen these comments as jokes or the president trolling his critics...

From NBC News

At risk of being called a sexist by every militant, left-wing, feminist, in the history of God's green Earth: (assuming there is a God) Just when I think Kristen Welker is just beautiful, adorable, Sunday morning eye-candy, who can get any drunk in the country with a head slamming hangover, to wake up on Sunday morning, just to watch her, she gives us some real hard news. Instead of just trying to convince her viewers of how cute and sweet she is. But the far-left doesn't like Kristen Welker. So perhaps I have nothing to worry about, since they only cry sexism over women they actually like.

I could roll either way on this latest Donald Trump, Washington tabloid story. And I'll tell you what I mean by that.

As The New Democrat said yesterday on social media about this latest Trump story: "Maybe we shouldn't jump in the lake every time he's says there's fish in it. He's simply trying to distract the country from Signal Gate and the economy".

And I completely agree with that. But the problem this story has given me a new theory about how Democrats should play this, assuming The White House is actually serious about this and someone hasn't been jacking the President's Die Coke with Jack Daniels or some other alcoholic beverage.

And it's Kristen Welker who threw this out there because apparently she's been talking to her own MAGA sources about this: Vice President J.D. Vance runs for President in 2027-28, (which is a story right there that I' will explore in the future) the Vice President selects his only boss, the President, to be his running mate. And some how they win the election.

So this is where the Democrats come it: whoever is the Democratic nominee for President in 28, they select President Barack Obama as their running mate. And President Obama spends the last 2 months of this campaign trolling not Vice President Vance, but President Trump. All day, every day, on social media, everywhere else, all the interviews, the townhalls, etc.

I mean when you are talking about Barack Obama, you are talking about 1 of the quickest and funniest minds, ever in American politics. The late night talk show hosts have. nothing on him from that standpoint. He proved that last October campaigning for Kamala Harris with the whole story about the price of diapers and talking about changing diapers and interrupting himself to say:

"First of all, can you imagine Donald Trump changing diapers? Think about that for a minute". And other issues like that.

You put President Obama on the campaign trail full-time to troll President Trump... the current President would look like a college of starving fish in the lake. I mean we're talking about the University of Texas Austin...a school of fish that large. And he take the bait every time the former President baits the current President.

So if the President is not drunk and high enough to shake hands with the Moon, they won't be pushing this. But if they do, the Democrats have the perfect counterpunch: tell the people how great a Vice President Barack Obama would be and that would kill this latest insane MAGA story faster than fire burns paper.

Sky News: JD Vance Hits Out At Denmark During Greenland Visit After Donald Trump Says US 'Needs' The Island

"JD Vance has told Denmark it has "not done a good job" with Greenland during a visit to the territory - as President Donald Trump repeated his call for the US to take over the island.

Vice President Vance, his wife Usha and other senior US officials arrived at an American military base in Greenland, the semi-autonomous territory that has been a part of Denmark for more than 600 years.

"Our message to Denmark is very simple: you have not done a good job by the people of Greenland," Mr Vance said. "You have underinvested in the people of Greenland, and you have underinvested in the security architecture of this incredible, beautiful landmass filled with incredible people. We need to ensure that America is leading in the Arctic."

Source:Sky News with a look at U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance (MAGA, Ohio) pointing at a mirror?

From Sky News

And from Slate Magazine:

"Last weekend, second lady Usha Chilukuri Vance shared an Instagram video from the White House announcing an upcoming trip to Greenland and offering a “special message” for its America-hating residents. Clad in a white suit and speaking extremely monotonically into the camera, Vance informed her viewers that she would be visiting Kalaallit Nunaat in time for the autonomous Danish territory’s Avannaata Qimussersua dog sledding race, which the United States is sponsoring. “I’m also coming to celebrate the long history of mutual respect and cooperation between our nations, and to express hope that our relationship will only grow stronger in the coming years,” Vance concluded. “I look forward to meeting many of you soon.”

And fron Yahoo:

"Vice President JD Vance and his wife, Usha Vance, landed in Greenland on Friday afternoon, but they had to rearrange their entire trip to avoid embarrassment after people in the country said they didn’t want to welcome the couple.

And now, of course, the internet is roasting Vance for being unpopular wherever he goes.

In anticipation of the visit, American officials went door-to-door in Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, in the hopes of finding residents who wanted to greet Usha Vance, but no one took them up on the offer, Danish TV reports per The Daily Beast. Instead, that part of the trip and an excursion to see a dog sled race were pared down to just a visit to the remote American missile defense station on the island.

The controversial trip was part of President Trump’s push to take Greenland from Denmark “one way or the other.” But things didn’t go to plan as Greenland’s government called the trip “highly aggressive,” people planned to protest outside of the airport, and the organizers of the sled race said they never invited the second lady to attend, The New York Times reports.

The internet quickly started mocking Vance for bungling this PR stunt of a trip so badly. People quipped that “Hating JD and Usha Vance has united the world,” while someone else hoped they “choke on fermented shark,” and another person suggested that no one would want to put their furniture at risk around Vance, writing, “Who’d want to put their coach in danger like that...

I don't want to be too semantical: (so of course that's what I might be doing here) but how could J.D. Vance know how cold "shit" is? I mean seriously: how would someone know that? And I will let you use your imagination before I get too vulgar about what someone might need to do with their own "shit", or someone else's "shit" before they could possibly know how cold the "shit" is.

I'm also not a prude: (no, really) but the Vice President of the United States, flying off to foreign territory, un-welcomed, un-invited, showing up at a U.S. military base, wearing a t-shirt, blue jeans, and boots. He's 40 years old, he's the freakin Vice President of the United States... he's not at a Tim McGraw concert (no offense to Tim McGraw or any other country singer) or at a NASCAR race, or a college football game. He's supposed to represent the United States of America. And she shows up in another country, 1 of our best allies in the West, looking and acting like a dick. (My word) Just when people are thinking that it's Pete Hegseth is the 1 who drinks too much.

This from CNN:

"Vance, who only decided in the last few days to make the trip, said Denmark had neglected its territory and that America could no longer ignore Russian and Chinese alleged designs on the island.

“Our message to Denmark is very simple,” Vance said. “You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland.”

He repeatedly claimed the island was vulnerable and that the United States had “no other option” than to ramp up its presence there.

Greenland would be better off “coming under the United States’ security umbrella than you have been under Denmark’s security umbrella,” he said, saying it was the “policy of the United States” to see changes to the island’s Danish leadership.

Still, he acknowledged the future of the island should be up to its residents."

From CNN

But according to POLITICO, which is actually in the business to report the news, unlike the Vice President of the United States:

"Greenlanders have a message for Donald Trump: We’re not interested.

85 percent of the local population are against the idea of becoming part of the United States, according to new polling conducted by research company Verian, for national newspaper Sermitsiaq in Greenland and media outlet Berlingske in Denmark.

The poll was based on web interviews conducted between Jan. 22 and 27 among 497 representatively selected citizens in Greenland over the age of 18...

From POLITICO

I would love to know where the Vice President's Office gets their information. But I think the safe bet is that they make "shit" up. Perhaps they claim they get it from the State Department. But they don't have any hard information.

And the thing about Donald Trump and his VP claiming that: "America would be respected and feared again again when I'm President"....

Greenland is the largest island in the world

If they were a an independent country: they would be the 12th largest country in the world in territory and yet their people are saying "hell no" about becoming part of the United States at any point in the future. If that's not embarrassing enough: they don't even want Donald and JD visiting their state. So much for America being respected and feared under Donald and JD.

Donald Trump's Reality TV Secretary Kristi Noem

" Secretary of Homeland Security Kristie Noem flies to El Salvador for maybe the most disgusting propaganda event in political history"

Source:David Pakman Show with a look at U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem. I guess she's trying to show everyone how "fabulous" she is.

From David Pakman

From The Economic Times:

"Kristi Noem's latest promotional video is making waves, and not just because of its message. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem filmed a controversial advertisement inside El Salvador's Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) prison, warning undocumented immigrants of severe consequences. While some praised her stance, others chastised her rhetoric...

The New Democrat was talking about then Governor Kristi Noem a year ago when she was under consideration to be Donald Trump's VP nominee and that doggone (pun intended) story broke about her:

"My theory for why Kristi Noem decided to do this, is she's a much smarter politician than she seems to want anyone whose not inside of her South Dakota circle to know. I think she believes that Donald Trump is a loser, whose going down, because he's going to lose overwhelmingly with women. And even lose too many Republicans with all his legal baggage, including the fact he could be a two-time convicted felon before election day in November and that will make it too hard for him to beat President Biden in November. And she doesn't want to be part of that electoral catastrophe. And she sure as hell doesn't want to get blamed for it. But that's my theory."

I would've thought that with David Pakman's political satiric background, especially when talking about right-wingers, that he would've jumped all over Secretary Kristi Noem's independent woman of MAGA, reality TV persona here. I mean I thought he would've jumped in there like a horse who hasn't had anything to drink in a few days, would jump into a lake. But, no, he just gave us a left-wing take on how these suspected Latin American terrorists and gangbangers, are being treated by Trump Administration.

Unless you are a hardcore leftist, who's not a fan of law enforcement to begin with, very hard to feel sorry for how these prisoners are being treated right now. And I'm saying this as someone who doesn't approve of the President's use Alien Enemies Act here.

So as Secretary Noem filmed her little independent, straight to home video, need to stay up to 4AM (unless you record it) c-film, from El Salvador, she does that by flaunting her $60,000 Rolex watch.

From recent reports I've been seeing, including from The Street, Kristi Noem's net worth is somewhere around a million dollars. She's 53 years old, her current salary as Secretary of Homeland Security is $246,000 a year. Could she have taken $50,000 dollars out her checking or savings account to pay for  a watch, she may only where a few times this year? Sure. But that would be the smoking gun that you would need to see that she's not a fiscal conservative and that she doesn't believe in fiscal responsibility... even with her own money. But I would want to see proof that she bought this watch with her own money and not just take someone's word on that before I believed it.

So the question here is did she really pay for that watch herself? I mean we're talking about a middle-age woman (even though she still looks and acts like a little girl) who has a fairly modest net worth, especially compared with her fellow cabinet officials, perhaps spending $50,000 of her own money, on a Rolex, she may only wear a handful of times, even as Secretary of DHS.

Or, it was given to Secretary Noem as a gift by someone else who does have that kind of money to spend on watches. And perhaps that person wants influence with the Trump Administration. And if that watch is a gift, she would have to report that gift to the Office of Government Ethics as an executive branch employee.

But this little film that DHS did here... that's all it was. Imagine Newsmax, or FOX putting together their own reality TV show for their MAGA audiences, this is what it would look like. People pretending to be for the common man (and perhaps just man) while they're flaunting their high-end wardrobes, living in mansions, driving foreign luxury and sports cars... their expensive lifestyles. With wannabe reality TV star Kristi Noem perhaps as the star of it. But Majorie T. Greene, Lauren Boebert, Alina Habba, Pete Hegseth, (drunk or sober) Dan Bongino, The Kasman Patel, perhaps Joe Rogan making weekly appearances on Cowboy Patriots For America. (Or whatever the hell it would be called) But that's all it would be, just another show calling itself reality TV.

Does anyone who is currently sane, sober, and intelligent, (who isn't 1 of Pete Hegseth's drinking buddies) think this little c-film from Noem Productions, are going to to prevent Latin gangbangers and terrorists, as well as just innocent people from those countries, who are simply trying to escape the poverty and crime of those countries, from trying to come to America, legally, or illegally? Anyone want to make that bet?

Katrina Szish & Bob Sellers: BREAKING: President Trump Withdraws Elise Stefanik's UN Nomination Due to House Majority

"President Donald Trump has withdrawn the nomination of Rep. Elise Stefanik to be Ambassador to the United Nations due to the slim House GOP majority. NEWSMAX's Kilmeny Duchardt reports details."

Source:Newsmax with a look at U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik (MAGA, New York)

From Newsmax

From the President of the United States:

"As we advance our America First Agenda, it is essential that we maintain EVERY Republican Seat in Congress. We must be unified to accomplish our Mission, and Elise Stefanik has been a vital part of our efforts from the very beginning. I have asked Elise, as one of my biggest Allies, to remain in Congress to help me deliver Historic Tax Cuts, GREAT Jobs, Record Economic Growth, a Secure Border, Energy Dominance, Peace Through Strength, and much more, so we can MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN. With a very tight Majority, I don’t want to take a chance on anyone else running for Elise’s seat. The people love Elise and, with her, we have nothing to worry about come Election Day. There are others that can do a good job at the United Nations. Therefore, Elise will stay in Congress, rejoin the House Leadership Team, and continue to fight for our amazing American People. Speaker Johnson is thrilled! I look forward to the day when Elise is able to join my Administration in the future. She is absolutely FANTASTIC. Thank you Elise!"

Just a point of clarification first: Katrina Szsih said:

"So what might have sounded like some type of scandal, is not that all. This is about Elise Stefanik keeping her seat in Congress".

I get this is Newsmax and I don't expect them to really give me any facts whatsoever, let alone even a few of them, or most of them, let alone all of them. And getting news from them, is like lying down in the street searching for water because you are thirsty. But their reporter Kelly Dukart said:

"Republicans are not willing to take a chance on her (meaning U.S. Representative Elise Stefanik) seat with their narrow majority in the House of Representatives...

"Republicans not willing to take a chance on her seat with their narrow House majority", that's the key line here. And you heard it from Newsmax, before you want to blame it on "legacy media", the "liberal media", "the left-wing media", etc.

House Republicans have 2 seat majority right now in the House of Representatives. Think about that: Out of 234 seats, they only have 219 seats. Donald Trump is unpopular, Democrats are winning legislative seats in Pennsylvania in other places where Donald Trump won those districts by 15-20 points.

House Republicans lose Matt Gaetz's Florida seat (and I'm not predicting that they will) and then Elise Sefanik gets to the United Nations and the Governor of New York (Kathy Hochul) would call for a special election for her seat as well and maybe that's this summer and that's Northeastern New York , where Democrats are competitive... The White House right now is doing political damage control right now and trying to hold back what could be a perfect political storm for the Democrats for the rest of 25 and going into 2026.

So Katrina Szish might be technically right when she say's President Trump withdrawing Representative Stefanik's name for the United Nations Ambassador, is not a "scandal". But The White House is simply trying to contain a potentially major political fire for themselves.

Representative Jasmine Crocket Gets Backlash From The Left For Her Hot Mess

"Robby Soave and Lynda Tran react to "The View" hosts scolding Rep. Jasmine Crockett  (D-T.X) over her comments about Texas Governor Greg Abbott."

Source:The Hill with a look at U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett (Democrat, Texas)

From The Hill

"Backlash Over Rep. Crockett's Gov. Abbott Comments"

Source:The View with a look at U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett (Democrat, Texas)

From The View

U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett's (Democrat, Texas) own words about Government Greg Abbot:

“Y’all know we got Governor Hot Wheels down there,” Crockett said. “And the only thing hot about him is that he is a hot (expletive) mess, honey.”

And then Representative Crockett trying to clean up the manure she dumped in the kitchen. This is why you never let your horse into your house. You can imagine how well that went:

"I wasn’t thinking about the governor’s condition—I was thinking about the planes, trains, and automobiles he used to transfer migrants into communities led by Black mayors, deliberately stoking tension and fear among the most vulnerable," Crockett wrote on X."

From USA Today

Just yesterday The New Democrat on social media was talking about who Fox News anchor Laura Ingraham was talking about how The White House was handling Signal Gate: "Seriously: even freakin Laura Ingraham is asking questions like: “How did a journalist get added to a Signal group chat among top Trump officials discussing a U.S. military strike on Houthi rebels in Yemen?" When even Fox News knows MAGA is screwing up... you know they screwed up."

And now today, The View (which is like MSNBC daytime in the primetime) is talking about how Representative Crockett screwed up in how she not just got caught mocking Governor Greg Abbott (Republican, Texas) who is a paraplegic, but how she tried to explain her comment and tried to deny what she knew she did.

Representative Crockett saying she didn't know Governor Abbot was a paraplegic... imagine being caught on video tape trying to walk out with a coat at a department store, or something and of course you get caught doing that and your response is something like: "That wasn't me. That must have been my twin". And you don't even have a twin. I mean she's from Texas too:

Does she ever go home?

Does she ever look at the media there?

I'm willing to bet she's at least met Governor Abbot at some point. Did she think he was too lazy to stand up or something?

When intelligent people fall in ditches, they tend to pick themselves up and climb out of the ditch. But in Jasmine Crockett's case, she decides that since she's already in the ditch, she might as well try to dig for gold, or something.

Do you really need any other reason why The New Democrat for the last month now has endorsed James Carville's political approach of strategic rope-a-dope and counterpunch?

Let the Republican Party be the Republican Party of the Marjorie T. Greene's and Lauren Boebert's, who can only get any political publicity at all, when they make a break for the wall and escape their political asylum's and do something crazy on the street. They're the party of Donald Trump and his political reality TV show The Keystone Cops At The White House.

The Democratic Party is supposed to be the party of the people. Not the crazy people. The people who work hard, play by the rules, trying to get ahead in life. Not trying to make life harder for good, intelligent, responsible, hard-working Americans. As James Carville said:

"Allow the Republicans to crumble beneath their own weight, and make the American people miss us. Only until the Trump administration has spiraled into the low 40s or high 30s in public approval polling percentages should we make like a pack of hyenas and go for the jugular. Until then, I’m calling for a strategic political retreat," he wrote.

With no clear leader to voice our opposition and no control in any branch of government, it’s time for Democrats to embark on the most daring political maneuver in the history of our party: roll over and play dead," the strategist continued...

“If this information — particularly the exact times American aircraft were taking off for Yemen — had fallen into the wrong hands in that crucial two-hour period, American pilots and other American personnel could have been exposed to even greater danger than they ordinarily would face,” Goldberg and Harris wrote.

National security adviser Mike Waltz later texted to confirm that the target was in a building that collapsed and the strike was successful.

“The first target – their top missile guy – we had positive ID of him walking into his girlfriend’s building and it’s now collapsed,” Waltz wrote at 2 p.m. ET.

And later in the day, Hegseth confirmed to the group that more strikes were coming.

“Great job all. More strikes ongoing for hours tonight, and will provide full initial report tomorrow. But on time, on target, and good readouts so far,” he said.

The release of the messages appeared to undercut Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard’s testimony on Tuesday, where she said it was to her knowledge that weapons packages, targets and timing weren’t part of the conversations in the Signal chat.

Gabbard on Wednesday doubled down on the administration’s insistence that no classified information was shared in the now-infamous chat.

“The conversation was candid and sensitive, but as the president, National Security Advisor stated, no classified information was shared,” Gabbard told the House Intelligence Committee. “There were no sources, methods, locations or war plans that were shared. This was a standard update to the national security cabinet that was provided alongside updates that were given to foreign partners in the region.”

She also said Hegseth was ultimately responsible for deciding what in that conversation should or should not have been classified: “Ultimately, the Secretary of Defense holds the authority to classify or declassify.”

Goldberg said on Wednesday the magazine decided to redact a sensitive piece of information out of their follow-up article.

“We did redact one piece of information because we felt, on our own, that we felt it was best to do. And the CIA asked us, but, you know, at a certain point, the administration is saying that there’s nothing classified or secret or sensitive in these so at a certain point, I just felt, you know, let our readers decide for themselves,” he said on MSNBC of the decision to publish the rest of the information...

From CNN

From The New Democrats yesterday:

"Before I get into the important point of what I want to say here, I have to say hearing a story like this, about these group of people, who were caught redhanded sharing military secrets, over a private phone... it's not funny. But if 1 of your goals in life is to be the world champion of hypocrisy, this would be a great start: "Damn, these people are serious hypocrites. I got nothing on them. They can have the world title... if they want it that badly".

As Jessica Tarlov said... and they weren't called MAGA back in 2014 when Hillary Clinton's email story broke, but these are the same people culturally and ideologically, who were accusing HRC of not being trustworthy to protect our national security secrets...

From The New Democrat today:

"So Ben Meiselas and ABC News do a very good job of laying out all the MAGA lies about Group Chat Gate from the Trump Administration. But Ron Filipkowski pretty much sums up their main problem here in 1 sentence:

"You would think that people who lie so much would be better at it by now from all the practice."

And if you are someone who just doesn't love political history, but Hollywood political history films... there's a great line from Hal Holbrook (who played Deepthroat in All The President' Men in 1976) where he's talking to Bob Woodward (played by Robert Redford) about the Watergate burglars and the people in The White House whose job was to cover up the Watergate and the Plummers mess created by President Richard Nixon and his loyalists:

"The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand...

I guess my first response here is and from the way Don Lemon reads Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth's texts here... the Secretary sounds like a frat boy, who just got approved to a fraternity, (perhaps he's just a sophomore) and he's trying to impress the upperclassman in the fraternity and show them how tough and masculine he is and perhaps he's already a few six packs in before this point... so sounds he like:

"Dude!!! Let's do it! Let's get him! Yeah, man!"

Or, it could be Pete Hegseth trying to prove to his group chat crew, how he got the nickname "DUI Pete". And he's just drunk out of the world at that point and he's simply just ripping here.

Look, the country was warned last year about the consequences of having a president and presidential administration, that puts loyalty to 1 man, as well as performance and looks on TV, over actual qualifications, knowledge, education, experience, and intelligence, for the jobs that they're seeking. But 77 million voters voted for Donald Trump anyway, which gave him over 300 votes in the Electoral College.

The U.S. Senate had the opportunity to deny these people their current jobs simply because they're not qualified for them. But the Republican Senate approved them anyway, even though a lot of them knew better, but weren't ready to risk their political futures.

Elections has consequences and when the people vote for the wrong people to represent them... bad things happen. (And that's putting it mildly) The Trump Administration has been in office for 2 months now and we're already seeing how inept and unqualified they are at governing.

Ben Meiselas: Fox News COLLAPSES On LIVE TV As Lies ALL BLOW UP

"MeidasTouch host Ben Meiselas reports on how Fox News is in a total panic as the Trump administration lies over its war plan leaks are getting more ridiculous and absurd by the minute."

From the Meidas Touch

From FOX News themselves:

"National Security Advisor Michael Waltz is pressed on claims from an article in 'The Atlantic' and defends the Trump administration’s foreign policy success on ‘The Ingraham Angle."

From FOX News

And from a real news source: ABC News:

"How did a journalist get added to a Signal group chat among top Trump officials discussing a U.S. military strike on Houthi rebels in Yemen?

That's a key question after the message chain was brought to light on Monday by The Atlantic's Jeffrey Goldberg in an article titled: "The Trump Administration Accidentally Texted Me Its War Plans." A National Security Council spokesman told ABC News shortly after the article was published the message thread that was reported "appears to be authentic."

Goldberg said he received a connection request on the commercially available app from a user identified as White House national security adviser Michael Waltz. He recounted later being added to a chat group with a message from Waltz about it being established to coordinate about Houthis...

From ABC News

What I'm going to talk about here really gets to my point about Laura Ingraham in this discussion. I can't believe The New Democrat is sort of speaking up for Laura Imgraham (the princess of far-right propaganda) but this is Donald Trump's America and times are very different. From The New Democrat last week:

"Just a little background of what I think of Laura Ingraham first and then the interview:

I think she's a right-wing, hyper-partisan demagogue, who a best is very loose with the truth. But she's not stupid or crazy. You see that just in the opening of this interview with President Trump where she said that The White House readout of the conversation between the President and President Vladimir Putin: "As a positive reading of the conversation"

And then Laura Ingraham literally asking the President when talking about Chief Justice John Roberts statement on the President attacking Federal judges because they ruled against him: "Are there any court orders that you wouldn't defy?"

Think about that: a Fox News anchor... I mean there's no one more MAGA than Laura Ingraham. Her right-wing populist record, goes back to the 1990s, if not father. She's a saner, more intelligent version of Ann Coulter. And she's asking the Dear Leader of the MAGA movement (who also just happens to also be President of the United States) "Are there any court orders that you would defy...

"Secretary Scott Bessent's line: "Many of the employees are fantastic. It's this consultant group. They're like a boa constrictor. They're like a python," he said. "They've constricted themselves around our government, and the costs are unbelievable. They're being passed on to the American taxpayer."

Reminds me of this expression: "The expression "you can never trust a snake" is a common idiom used to describe someone who is deceitful, untrustworthy, and potentially dangerous, often implying they are scheming or manipulative. It's rooted in the image of a snake, a creature often associated with stealth and danger."

I'm just wondering of the Secretary is speaking from personal experience here. And perhaps cluing in Laura Ingraham's viewers about his own trustworthiness.

Which would explain Fox News host Laura Ingraham less than enthusiastic expression and response to Secretary Bessent when the Secretary compared Federal workers to snakes...

And from The New Democrat about this yesterday:

And from Ben Meiselas's colleague Ron Filipkowski over at Meidas (Ron today about the Trump Administration's lie machine:

"You would think that people who lie so much would be better at it by now from all the practice."

So Ben Meiselas and ABC News do a very good job of laying out all the MAGA lies about Group Chat Gate from the Trump Administration.

"The truth is, these are not very bright guys, and things got out of hand".

The fact is The White House only speaks to 1 audience, which is their MAGA base. They feel as long as they have those small town, blue-collar, folks who think America is has been going to hell since the 1960s because of multiculturalism and everything else from that period... they'll be fine. They just have to stay in there and keep doing all the fighting and attacking the so-called elitists. And anyone who isn't rural, Anglo-Saxon male, they'll just label those folks as DEI when they stand up to this White House.

So when you are only speaking to 1 audience and morality and honesty if anything are just obstructors to your ultimate goal which is to take over and run America, you can literally lie your asses off in public, even purger yourselves in front of Congress. Because who's going to stop them?

And my point about Laura Ingraham is something that was made on The New Democrat last week: Ben Meiselas at 1 point in this video said referring to Ingraham: "She almost gets it". He's wrong. She gets it and I think she's also getting tired of having to spend 10-15 minutes of her show every night trying to defend the Keystone Cops as The White House every night. I think she knows how incompetent they are and doesn't even mind letting her viewers get a taste of that. But she doesn't want to lose her job at Fox News and her 7-8 figure income every year from FNC. But that's my observation about her.

POLITICO: Sex, Drinking & Dementia: 25 Lawmakers Spill On What Congress Is Really Like

"This article was compiled from interviews conducted by Ben Jacobs, Jasper Goodman, Jordain Carney, Jennifer Scholtes, Hailey Fuchs, Emma Dumain, Lisa Kashinsky, Connor O’Brien, Holly Otterbein, Adam Wren, Daniella Diaz and Nicholas Wu. Juan Benn Jr. contributed to this report...

"Just months after being escorted out of a Denver theatre for lewd behaviour, a new report has spilled details on Lauren Boebert’s antics at a GOP Christmas party.

The Colorado representative was allegedly cut off from alcohol by a server at the New York Young Republican Club’s Manhattan gala, an incident seen by several witnesses, according to CNN.

The Secret Service was also reportedly forced to intervene in her repeated attempts to take selfies with the event’s guest of honour, former president Donald Trump."

"New Report Paints Congress As Uneducated & Alcohol Fueled"

Remember Senator Markwayne Mullin (Republican, Oklahoma) at Pete Hegseth's defense conformation hearing? Well, The New Democrat does:

“How many senators have showed up drunk to vote at night?” Mullin demanded after Democrat Sen. Tim Kaine’s fiery line of questioning. “Have any of you guys asked them to step down and resign from their jobs? And don’t tell me you haven’t seen it, because I know you have...

The Oklahoma Republican went on to slam lawmakers for inquiring about whether infidelity in Hegseth’s marriages could be disqualifying for the Cabinet position, arguing that multiple politicians divorced spouses under similar circumstances.

“How many senators do you know have got a divorce before cheating on their wives? Did you ask them to step down? No, but it’s for show,” Mullin said. “You guys make sure you make a big show and point out the hypocrisy, because a man’s made a mistake, and you want to sit there and say that he’s not qualified...

"I'm just looking for qualifications. You didn't give me any qualifications.

Starts bringing up the fact that, what if you showed up drunk to your job? How many senators have showed up drunk to vote at night? (LAUGHTER)

Have any of you guys asked them to step down and resign from their job? And don't tell me you haven't seen it, because I know you have.

Kaitlan Collins:

"I mean, first off, that's a pretty serious accusation there. Do you want to name any of the senators that you're saying-- are drinking on the job?

Senator Markwayne Mullin:

No, and that's -- my whole point was, is that these senators, on the other side of the aisle, was trying to act like they were had more morals than Pete Hegseth. And they don't.

If you're going to hold someone accountable for their behavior, then hold everybody accountable. I'm not saying, I'm the most moral man or the perfect individual. I'm absolutely not. I wasn't the one calling him out. But if you're going to hold -- if you're going to hold someone at that standard, then hold everybody at that standard...

But I was in that room today. And when you said that, I guess, the thought that went through my head was, if what you're saying is true, and your colleagues do show up drinking, to come to work and vote, which I think would maybe be concerning to those taxpayers who pay them, how is the bad behavior of a sitting senator, a defense of someone who wants to run the Pentagon...

I have a few responses here, but the general point has already been made.

Seeing this new story from POLITICO and all the members from the 119th Congress (House & Senate) that they talked to, makes Senator Mullin's statement at Pete Hegseth's defense conformation hearing:

“How many senators have showed up drunk to vote at night?” Mullin demanded after Democrat Sen. Tim Kaine’s fiery line of questioning. “Have any of you guys asked them to step down and resign from their jobs? And don’t tell me you haven’t seen it, because I know you have...

no longer look like a drunken fantasy. That he was actually on to something (instead of on something) back in January. I wish POLITICO talked to him, but you know what they say about members of Congress: If you can't catch them by 5, they're probably at the nearest bar or country club throwing a few back. Happy Hour is obviously their best time to drink because as Senator John Fetterman and (Democrat, Pennsylvania) and Representative Marjorie T. Greene: (MAGA, Georgia) they get paid so very little serving in Congress. Actually, I'm the only one who says: "If you can't catch them by 5, they're probably at the nearest bar or country club throwing a few back". Just so we're clear.

And then my last point here: anyone who thinks American democracy is about sending "the best and the brightest to represent us... whatever you are drinking or smoking right now, feel free to share that with everyone else who wants an escape from reality. And in Donald Trump's America (also known as Trumpland) that's a helluva lot of people. I mean there are waiting lines from the East Coast to the West Coast and every state in-between waiting for that reality escape.

As U.K Prime Minister Winston Churchill once said: democracy is the worst form of government... except for all the rest. The people that tend to get elected in government, come from the people themselves.

If you don't like the current level of intelligence, qualifications, accomplishments, education, morality, that makes up who currently represents us in Congress, look at yourself and what you bring to the table for this country, first. And then who is currently representing you in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate right now. And who you voted for and supported in the past. Before you blame the people who are already in office, for their lack of qualifications, lack of intelligence, lack of accomplishments, and lack of morality.

CBS News: How Donald Trump Officials, Congress Are Reacting to Atlantic Story On Yemen Bombing Group Chat

"Monday's story about an Atlantic journalist being included in a group chat among Trump officials discussing war plans for Yemen is reverberating across Washington. CBS News' Ed O'Keefe and Nikole Killion report."

Source:CBS News with a look at Donald J. Trump (MAGA, Florida) 47th President of the United States & 1st wannabe dictator.

From CBS News

Fox News political commentator Jessica Tarlov pretty much summed up my position on this... even before I thought of it:

"I don’t want to ever hear about Hillary Clinton’s emails again."
Fox News' Jessica Tarlov tore into the White House after it was revealed that The Atlantic EIC Jeffrey Goldberg had accidentally been added to a top-secret group chat."

From Mediate

Before I get into the important point of what I want to say here, I have to say hearing a story like this, about these group of people, who were caught redhanded sharing military secrets, over a private phone... it's not funny. But if 1 of your goals in life is to be the world champion of hypocrisy, this would be a great start: "Damn, these people are serious hypocrites. I got nothing on them. They can have the world title... if they want it that badly".

As Jessica Tarlov said... and they weren't called MAGA back in 2014 when Hillary Clinton's email story broke, but these are the same people culturally and ideologically, who were accusing HRC of not being trustworthy to protect our national security secrets:

"Multiculturalism, education, elitism, modernism, is destroying America. And we need to fight back take back America". That's what the Tea Party believed back then and that's what Tea Party/MAGA believes now.

And as the far-right in America is accusing Democrats of destroying America for the reasons I just mentioned, they get caught talking about the Pentagon's war plans in Yemen, as well as future military plans that The White House is considering, on private phones. And if that's not bad enough for you... they leak their plans and conversations to a private journalist.

But hey, American democracy has real consequences. And when a majority of the country votes for someone for President, who appoints people to office based on how they look and sound on TV, instead of their professional qualifications, their intelligence and knowledge, damn things can happen that has real consequences for the rest of the country.

Matt Lewis: Mike Murphy On The GOP Train Wreck

"Another week, another political dumpster fire.

This time, I sat down with my old pal Mike Murphy — famed Republican strategist, co-host of Hacks on Tap, and one of the few people who can talk politics without immediately spiraling into an existential crisis.

Trump’s "Blind Chimp with a Chainsaw" Strategy
I kicked things off by asking Mike a question that has been on my mind a lot lately: What the hell is Trump doing? His big moves — like tariffs — are about as popular as food poisoning. Is there some kind of strategy here, or is this just another episode of The Apprentice: Apocalypse Edition?

Mike didn’t sugarcoat it: Trump’s entire political playbook is a loop. Win as the wrecking ball, flop as an actual president, lose, then win again by pointing at the mess he made and blaming someone else. It’s not governing — it’s demolition derby politics.

The problem this time? The economy was Trump’s only real selling point. Voters bought the whole fire Biden, bring back the good times pitch. Now he’s back, and instead of keeping the wheels on, he’s careening down the highway with a megaphone, ranting about revenge and handing the keys to Elon Musk and a bunch of interns with names like “Big Balls.”

Mike summed it up with an image that’s both hilarious and terrifying: It’s like “a blind chimp with a chainsaw.”

Americans like the idea of cutting government waste — until they realize the waste is their benefits, their jobs, and, oh yeah, their entire economy.

The tariffs alone are a suicide note to Trump’s own voters. And that’s before we get to the cabinet full of Fox News rejects, the DOJ turned into a personal hit squad, and the foreign policy strategy that might as well be dictated straight from the Kremlin.

Mike’s verdict? “It’s like the Chinese Communist Party and super Democratic partisans got together and built Trump in a laboratory to blow the midterm elections…

Source:Matt Lewis talking to longtime Republican political strategist Mike Murphy about guess who ...

From Matt Lewis

"Mike Murphy, infuriated Republican strategist and co-host of the "Hacks on Tap" podcast,  joins Matt Lewis to unpack Donald Trump’s latest moves — tariffs that could spike prices, a chaotic cabinet filled with Fox News rejects, and a revenge-driven agenda that’s alienating voters.

From Elon Musk’s government meddling to a potential midterm disaster for the GOP,  Murphy breaks down the method (or is it madness?) behind Trump’s endgame.

Plus, Murphy offers some solid advice for Democrats: Ditch the woke lectures, focus on the economy, and spotlight rising stars to flip the House in 2026."

I have a few responses here:

The New Democrat has been posting a lot lately... really since February in response to James Carville New York Times essay about how Democrats should act as the opposition. Which included a response to fellow blogger Leigh McGowan about the same issue, the President's State of the Union, the government funding bill, etc. And a lot of what we were talking about was how the militant left-wing of the Democratic Party has responded to the Democratic leadership about this, that, the other thing, and I'm sure something else after that. So if you read all of that, you might believe that the administration runs the asylum, not the inmates. But the Republican Party is the opposite of that, which is really what this is about.

To state the obvious: America is not Europe as far as how its political system operates. Germany (for example) has a center-right, as well as a center-left party, (by European standards) but they have smaller parties in their Parliament that are way to the right and left of the 2 major political parties there: the Conservative Party and the Social Democratic Party.

America is very different from Germany and the rest of the Europe in this sense. Yes, we have a Libertarian Party, a socialist Green Party, but not so much a far-right party anymore, because most, if not all those folks are now MAGA Republicans. But instead of having a multi-party political system in our government, its really just the Republican Party thats now dominated by these MAGA activists, (who in a perfect world, would be halfway around the world from any serious conservative party) and what's left of the Goldwater-Reagan Conservative Republicans, and a few Northeastern Progressives in Maine and perhaps in other places.

And the Democratic Party still has those JFK Liberals and Roosevelt Progressives, but it has ideological bothers and sisters (if not ideological twins) of the Green Party as well as far as what those folks believe in ideologically and culturally. And that includes people who think communism is cool and other positions that could get anyone committed to any political asylum for the rest of your life.

And all of this gets to 1 of Mike Murphy's original points here. Matt Lewis asked Murphy is: "Is there a method to Donald Trump's madness here?" And Murphy's answer was essentially "no" and he explained why. I would've asked: "Is there a madness to Donald Trump's method?'

The Donald Trump Administration is essentially trying to destroy the American, liberal democratic, form of government, and replace it with his own personal oligarchy. And he and Elon Musk don't give a damn who gets hurt in the process, including the Republican Party. Well, that's sort of what the Democratic Left wants to do with the Democratic Party right now and perhaps our form of government down the line. (If Hell ever gets a month's worth of snow at the same time)

But 1 major difference between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party is the inmates run the asylum in the Republican Party. Whatever you think of Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic National Committee, the Democratic Governors Association, etc... they're not politically crazy and trying to destroy the country first and figure out how to rebuild it later on. They've been very strategic. And what you think of what they're doing, is completely up to you. But the Democratic leadership is not the Washington version of Madmen, or their own political reality TV show. Unlike with the Republican leadership.
