James Carville On Bill Maher & Larry David

"James Carville: Who's Right, Larry David Or Bill Maher.  Politics War Room (with James Carville & Al Hunt)More Politicon videos and podcasts available on our YouTube channel:    / @politicon"

Source:Politicon with the mad political scientist, James Carville.

From Politicon

From The Forward:

"Add Larry David to the list of celebrities who were put off by comedian Bill Maher’s friendly sitdown with President Trump.

In a New York Times opinion piece, “My Dinner with Adolf,” the Jewish creator of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” imagines a get-to-know-you meeting “at the Old Chancellery with the world’s most reviled man, Adolf Hitler.”

The narrator ends up being charmed by the Nazi leader. “I thought that if only the world could see this side of him, people might have a completely different opinion,” he gushes.

The essay doesn’t mention Maher, but in a newsletter Times deputy opinion editor Patrick Healy acknowledges that David proposed the article in response to Maher’s description of his recent meeting with Trump. Describing their dinner on his Max show “Real Time,” Maher said he found the president to be “gracious and measured” and hardly the “crazy person” he often seems on TV.

According to Healy, David sent him an unsolicited email suggesting his essay. Healy wrote that the Times seeks to avoid Nazi references in the essays it publishes, but felt David’s piece “is not equating Trump with Hitler. It is about seeing someone for who they really are and not losing sight of that.”

David joined other critics of Maher’s conciliatory description of his Trump meeting. “Bill is just the latest in a whole series of people who get had by the personal charm, if you will, of some really bad people,” said Democratic strategist James Carville on his “Politics War Room” podcast.

In a segment on “Real Time,” Washington Post global security analyst Josh Rogin told Maher he was a “prop” in Trump’s “PR stunt.”

In the David piece, the narrator banters amiably with Hitler, who laughs at his jokes. “I realized I’d never seen him laugh before,” he writes. “Suddenly he seemed so human.”

Maher said something similar about Trump in his monologue: “Just for starters, he laughs! I’ve never seen him laugh in public. But he does, including at himself. And it’s not fake.”

In his editor’s note, Healy writes that “David, in a provocation of his own, is arguing that during a single dinner or a private meeting, anyone can be human, and it means nothing in the end about what they’re capable of.”

David, who skewered conservative policies on his long-running HBO show, has often used Nazi references in his satire. As a standup comedian, he would goad audiences by saying “The one thing about Hitler that I admire…” before suggesting that the dictator had no patience for stage magicians. He and Jerry Seinfeld created the “Soup Nazi” character on “Seinfeld,” and “Curb” featured a memorable clash between a Holocaust survivor and a contestant on the reality show “Survivor” who too considered himself a victim.

Such jokes have divided audiences, and even individual critics. In an essay criticizing David for a Holocaust joke he told while hosting “Satruday Night Live” in 2017, Jeremy Dauber praised the “Survivor” episode on “Curb.” “In that ‘Curb’ episode,” writes Dauber, a professor of Jewish literature at Columbia University, “David is searchingly moral, flaying a kind of ethical vacuity and historical relativism about the Holocaust.”

David’s piece is also reminiscent of a 2003 skit by the Jewish comedian Jon Stewart, who imagines Hitler being interviewed by the late Larry King, the ingratiating CNN talk show host.

In his Max monologue, Maher, who positions himself as a centrist truth-teller between political extremes, anticipates the blowback he was sure to receive as a result of his dinner with a deeply polarizing president. “You can hate me for it, but I’m not a liar. Trump was gracious and measured, and why he isn’t that in other settings, I don’t know,” he said."

If you have been reading The New Democrat since February, you know that we've backed James Carville a lot. But his question: "Who's Right, Larry David Or Bill Maher?", is at best rhetorical, or worst, it's nonsensical.

Asking "Who's Right, Larry David Or Bill Maher?", is like asking:

"Who makes better luxury cars: Cadillac or Lincoln?"

Or, "Who makes better cola: Pepsi or Coke?"

Or, "Who makes better trucks: Ford or Chevrolet?"

There isn't 1 right answer to any of these questions because there aren't any real undisputed facts involved. It depends on the customer and what they're looking for and their own personal tastes.

And my other point here sort of goes to my first point: Bill Maher is not an historian, or journalist, public official. For anyone who was born yesterday: Bill Maher is a comedian, an entertainer, a businessman. If he thinks having dinner with President Trump Donald Trump is good for his business and career, that's what he's going to do. And it's almost pointless to say he's wrong in doing that.

Leftists, including leftist Democrats used to think of Bill Maher, even as recently as 10-15 years ago, as their latest hipster guru who would lead them to the promise land because he praised socialism and Socialists. But then they discovered that he also believes in personal freedom and free speech, so they sort of dumped him like someone walking around with a bomb that's about to explode and called him a bigot and a lot of other unpleasant things.

Bill Maher and Larry David are both comedians. (Hopefully that's not a newsflash for anyone who is sane and sober right now) They're going to do what's in the best interests of their careers. Nothing more.

Tim Miller & Sam Stein: Why the Hell Is Kristi Noem Carrying Around $3,000 in Cash?!

"Tim Miller and Sam Stein discuss the bizarre theft of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's purse containing $3,000 cash, a passport, and a DHS badge. How did this happen with Secret Service protection around? And what's the real story behind carrying so much cash?

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s bag, including $3,000 in cash, is stolen from DC restaurant...

Source:The Bulwark with Tim Miller & Sam Stein, talking about that doggone (pun intended) DHS Secretary Kristi Noem.

From The Bulwark

From CNN:

"Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem fell victim to a thief while eating dinner at a downtown Washington, DC, restaurant Sunday night, the secretary confirmed Monday.

Noem, who was asked about the theft at the White House Easter Egg Roll, acknowledged the incident and said the matter has not been resolved.

The Secret Service, which provides security for Noem, reviewed security camera footage at the Capital Burger restaurant and saw an unknown white male wearing a medical mask steal her bag and leave the restaurant, a law enforcement source said.

The thief got away with Noem’s driver’s license, medication, apartment keys, passport, DHS access badge, makeup bag, blank checks, and about $3,000 in cash.

The Secret Service has launched an investigation to trace any use of Noem’s financial instruments, the person added.

“Her entire family was in town including her children and grandchildren – she was using the withdrawal to treat her family to dinner, activities, and Easter gifts,” a DHS spokesperson said...

Source:CNN with a look at U.S. Secretary of Reality TV... I mean Homeland Security, (natural mistake) Kristi Noem.

From CNN

I would say that: "The New Democrat has been all over Kristi Noem for 13 months now. Just not in the way you might think we have been. (Get your head out of the gutter. MAGA sleeps there.)", but that's simply not true... for multiple reasons. This is just our 3rd piece about her and my first doggone piece (pun intended) about her:

"My theory for why Kristi Noem decided to do this, is she's a much smarter politician than she seems to want anyone whose not inside of her South Dakota circle to know. I think she believes that Donald Trump is a loser, whose going down, because he's going to lose overwhelmingly with women. And even lose too many Republicans with all his legal baggage, including the fact he could be a two-time convicted felon before election day in November and that will make it too hard for him to beat President Biden in November. And she doesn't want to be part of that electoral catastrophe. And she sure as hell doesn't want to get blamed for it. But that's my theory."

"Does anyone who is currently sane, sober, and intelligent, (who isn't 1 of Pete Hegseth's drinking buddies) think this little c-film from Noem Productions, are going to to prevent Latin gangbangers and terrorists, as well as just innocent people from those countries, who are simply trying to escape the poverty and crime of those countries, from trying to come to America, legally, or illegally? Anyone want to make that bet?"

I don't want to have too much fun about this story, because as someone who is an avid cyclist, I've had 3 of my bikes jacked from me just in the last 5 plus years. So I know something about this and what that experience is like to be robbed. But "too much" might be the key words here. When you are a player who should be in the rookie leagues and your official nickname is "not ready for prime time", or "Dog Gone Kristi Noem", a lot of bad, humorous, things are going to happen to you when you are in the majors, simply because you don't belong there and are well-unqualified to be there.

This latest doggone (pun intended) story about Kristi Nome... gives someone a lot of freedom to speculate and make fun of. The obvious questions being:

Where the hell was the Secret Service? (To paraphrase The Bulwark)

How did this person who was wearing a freakin mask, (for crying out loud) get anywhere near the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security? And goes to the first question about the SS.

Why is someone who is making $246,000 a year, who collects a lot more than that, when you are talking about all the travel, meals, security, etc, she gets at taxpayer expense... doing with $3,000 in cash on her? Someone making that kind of money, you would think would have credit cards to spare.

And of course the passport: does she ever go home? And I'm not talking about South Dakota, where she belongs and she can just be their problem. But she must have an apartment, or townhouse, in or around Washington.

So now the fun part. I'm not saying I know the answers to these questions, but this is me speculating, perhaps even in a humorous way:

So is the answer to the first question: "Where the hell was the Secret Service?",

Kristi Noem is so unpopular even the Secret Service don't like her?

Or, dogs are part of her security and they were just trying to protect the dogs "from that doggone (pun intended) woman?"

And the question about the person with the mask: maybe they thought he was just a MAGA person who simply wanted the Secretary's autograph, who represented no threat to her? Maybe they thought he just wanted to congratulate her for doing such a doggone (pun intended) good job?

And why is Kristi Noem's carrying $3,000 in case on her and at a restaurant? Maybe she's had enough of Washington and Donald J. Trump, and she was simply to trying to make a break for it, after she had a good meal? That could perhaps answer the passport question as well. But again, I'm just speculating here.

John Berman & Kate Bolduan: Pete Hegseth Blames ‘Disgruntled Former Employees’ & The Media Amid Another Signal Scandal

"Saying “anonymous smears from disgruntled former employees on old news doesn’t matter,” Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth addressed the new allegations that he shared Yemen strike plans in a second Signal group chat. CNN’s Natasha Bertrand reports."

Source:CNN with a look at U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Perhaps the Secretary is wondering why they don';t serve beer at The White House Easter Roll. But that's a guess.

From CNN

From U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth:

"What a big surprise that a few leakers get fired and suddenly a bunch of hit pieces come out from the same media that peddled the Russia hoax, won't give back their Pulitzers, they got Pulitzers for a bunch of lies ... This is what the media does. They take anonymous sources from disgruntled former employees and then they try to slash and burn people and ruin their reputations."

From C-SPAN

Just to start off with, I have an anecdote that I would like to share first.

It was literally last Friday night, at around 10PM, I'm just getting done that day at work (because this is how much The New Democrat loves their readers) and I was thinking as I was leaving the office, that Secretary Hegseth might still be at his office at The Pentagon right now. Not there working hard for America's national security. (Don't be silly) But there having a few, perhaps a few more, not realizing that he could've gone home, or to his favorite bar in Washington, or some place... 4-5 hours ago. But he's too drunk to realize that.

This might sound like I'm just making fun on an alcoholic, (or as Bart Simpson says: Al Coholic) but this story that no one at The White House, or at The Pentagon, including in the Secretary's executive office, is denying, was literally reported about 48 hours later from whatever was going on with the Secretary from last Friday night. They're just playing the old Watergate game from the 1970s of the non-denial, denial:

"Yes, it's true. But this story is the media's fault because they reported exactly what happened and it hurt us". But it hurts Pete Hegseth personally and professionally, specifically.

From The New Democrat about the Hegseth nomination back in January:

"If you privately polled the Senate Republican Conference, or slipped some truth serum in their favorite coffee or favorite alcohol beverage, (according to Senator Mullin) or they were under oath, they would privately tell you that Pete Hegseth has no business serving as a Defense Department intern, let alone as Secretary of Defense. That he's better qualified attending Alcoholic Anonymous meetings, and attending anger management meetings, then being responsible for America's national security. But President Trump wants Hegseth, so that's who he gets, according to a sold majority of the Senate Republican Conference. That's my guess...

And to respond to a point that Jane Harman made on CNN: Donald Trump only fires his loyal staffers and cabinet members, when they become a problem for him personally. The President firing people has nothing to what with what's in the best interest of the country, because he doesn't care about that. (To be real)

And as former Representative Harman said, Pete Hegseth is now embarrassing The White House and the President because he was Donald Trump's original choice for Secretary of Defense. But it's now quite obvious that the Secretary of Defense can't even be trusted with classified information. And it's becoming harder for Congressional Republicans (House & Senate) to defend him against anything that comes up against him, especially if they're in for tough reelection battles in 2026.

The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson: Burt Reynolds (June, 1986)

"Burt Reynolds Saws Johnny in Half | Carson Tonight Show. Original Airdate: June 06, 1986"

Source:Johnny Carson enjoying Burt Reynolds magical appearance on his show. (Pun intended)

From Johnny Carson

So Burt comes out and they're just telling each other "how good is it to see each other", etc and Johnny tells Burt:

"We've known each other what 20 years? You come out here and you have nothing to plug: no movie, no album, TV show, etc",

and Burt says: "That right there tells you my career is insufficient".

And Johnny says: "Well put".

And Burt says: "That's all right. I'm here because I want to be here".

So this small talk right here (or is that small chat?) reminds me of an interview that Johnny Carson did of comedian Steve Martin back in 1978:

"Steve Martin tells Johnny Carson he has to leave on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” in 1978. One of the funniest moments on the Johnny Carson show! More Steve Martin on Johnny Carson’s show".

When the fact is, Steve Martin has nowhere else to be that night:

Doesn't have a hooker waiting to see him

Doesn't have to meet his drug dealer

Doesn't have to meet with lawyer to talk about his latest divorce or paying off his latest mistress, etc. He has nowhere else to be. Steve Martin could've jumped in the Pacific Ocean that night and tried to swim to Hawaii from California and no one in the world would have missed him... according to Steve Martin. (And I'm having a little fun with this) So why not just hang out with Johnny Carson and just kill time?

And you can see the whole skit with Martin and Carson on The New Democrat

And then Burt was telling Johnny about turning 50 years old and he said: "And when I turned... 50" and he said it really softly

And Johnny replies: "I didn't hear that.

With Burt replying: "I know. Because when you get as old as you, you can't here".

As I said on Tuesday right here:

"I swear if Burt Reynolds didn't act full-time, he would've been a full-time standup comedian and probably 1 of the best ever, who would do comedy films, or action/comedy films, perhaps just as research for his own standup material, or just for the hell of it. He was so quick that when you put him on Johnny Carson (who was a full-time comedian) and Burt becomes the comedian and can make Johnny Carson look as straight and stiff Ted Koppel anchoring ABC News Nightline.".

Burt comes on Carson with no script and no material to work with, comedically and he just goes off of what Carson is asking him and talking to him about and Burt Reynolds who was never a full-time standup comedian and perhaps never did standup at all, becomes the comedian on the show and Johnny becomes the straight journalist. That's how quick and funny Burt Reynolds was.

David Shuster: Jessica Tarlov's FACT-CHECK Leaves Fox News Co-Hosts Reeling

"Fox News’ lone liberal, Jessica Tarlov, calmly shut down the conservative panel with nothing but facts — all live on air. David Shuster breaks it down on Rebel HQ."

Source:Rebel HQ with a look at Fox News commentator Jessica Tarlov. Who says cuties don't were nerdy glasses? It sure as hell wasn't me.

From Rebel HQ

I guess I have a few responses here to what David Shuster said and then I'll get to what he was talking about as well.

I don't know if Jessica Tarlov is a "Liberal" or not. I don't watch FOX News for anything, let alone anything to do with Greg Gutfeld who is the host of The Five. But I know The Five panelists are not "Conservatives". I mean, that's obvious. You don't kiss Donald J. Trump's ass for a living, or even pay him so you can kiss his ass publicly... even get on a waiting list (even pay to get on that waiting list) to publicly kiss Donald J. Trump's ass for a living, if you are a "Conservative". For 1 thing: Conservatives like don't porn. Oh, wait: they're just verbally kissing his ass for a living. But that's still not "conservative".

You are not going to find someone in America who is less conservative than Donald J. Trump:

He doesn't believe in the U.S. Constitution

He doesn't believe in the rule of law

He doesn't believe in tradition

He doesn't believe in checks and balances

He takes the word of dictators over our own National Security State

He doesn't believe in checks and balances. The facts that he claims to be a king and said he would be a dictator, but just on the first day... pretty good clues there.

He doesn't believe in fiscal responsibility, or personal responsibility. 6 time bankrupt, Manhattan businessman, who got bailed out by taxpayers during at least 1 of those bankruptcies... pretty good clues there. If that's not enough: 1 of the few times that he's ever been honest and truthful about anything relating to him, was back in 2015 or 16 when he claimed to be the "king of debt". So I guess he is a king after all.

My point here is, if you devote your professional life to defending Donald Trump for anything that he says and lying all the time to defend that man... you are not a "Conservative" either. I realize that David Shuster comes from the mainstream media before going independent, where they label everyone on the left as 'Liberals" regardless of what their actual politics are and everyone on the right as "Conservatives", regardless of what their politics are. But he's simply wrong about that.

As far as the Kilmar Abrego Garcia case, Fox News commentator Trey Gowdy (who might actually be a "Conservative") had the perfect response here:

"What do you think the White House should do in this situation?" MacCallum asked Gowdy during the Tuesday evening broadcast of her show, "The Story With Martha MacCallum."

"I mean, I think what they ought to do is probably follow the judge's order and the Supreme Court decision, which used the word 'facilitate,'" Gowdy replied. The Supreme Court's ruling in the case was unanimous.

"Also in that opinion, Martha, were the words 'accidental,' 'mistake' and 'illegal,'" he added. "I mean, those are not three good words you want in a Supreme Court decision."

I will say this: if the press secretary's facts are right, it should be a pretty easy conviction...

"And do I have more confidence in U.S. prisons or El Salvadoran prisons? U.S. prisons," the former GOP lawmaker said. "I have confidence in the U.S. prosecutors. I have more confidence in the U.S. prison system."

He went on to say: "If the president doesn't agree with that, and he may not, then bring him back and then remove him to another country, appeal the removal order. But what we can't have is any executive disobeying or not following a judge's decision, even if you disagree with it."

From Newsweek

Trey Gowdy would go on to say (and this might be a paraphrase): "If DOJ has a strong case against Kilmar Abrego Garcia, it should be an easy case and prosecution for them and to win a conviction."

But that's just it: as Jessica Tarlov said, DOJ's main evidence against Garcia seems to be corrupt police detective, who might also be an alcoholic. But MAGA relying on alcoholics for their information or to work for them is nothing new: just look as the Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth. Which is probably why DOJ doesn't want this case and to bring this man back to America, because he would be released in America like any other American citizen (that he is) who hasn't committed any crimes.

Matt Lewis: Congress: Where the Real Insider Trading Happens

"You wanna get rich in America? Forget tech startups, forget lottery tickets, forget pulling yourself up by your bootstraps. That’s for suckers. The real money’s in Congress — just get elected and let the sweet, sweet insider info start rollin’ in.

Take Georgia’s own Marjorie Taylor Greene. She’s under the microscope again — this time for conveniently scooping up tens of thousands in stocks from little mom-and-pop outfits like Apple, Amazon, FedEx, and Nike.

She bought “the dip” just before Trump announced a tariff pause that sent the markets into orbit.

Coincidence? Sure. And I’ve got beachfront property in Kansas to sell you.

The timeline’s almost poetic. April 2: Trump rants about slapping tariffs on everything that moves.

Markets tank. April 8–9: Greene goes on a shopping spree.

April 9: Trump jumps on TruthSocial to yell, “THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!!”

Hours later, he pulls a 180 and suspends the tariffs.

And wouldn’t you know it? The market takes off like a rocket strapped to a Red Bull.

When asked, Greene says her financial advisor has “full discretionary authority.” Uh-huh. Just like every corrupt politician’s imaginary friend.

Look, Greene isn’t breaking new ground here. She's just playing an old tune in the Washington jukebox. You know the one — it’s called “Enrich Thyself While Rome Burns.”

Never let a crisis go to waste — am I right?

The worst-kept secret in D.C. is that Congress isn’t where you go to serve your country. It’s where you go to serve yourself. Indeed, I spent a whole chapter documenting this trend in my wildly underrated 2023 book, Filthy Rich Politicians.

In case you haven’t gotten around to it (or in case you’ve forgotten) here is a very short modern history:

In 2008, as the financial system was bleeding out on the floor, Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson held a closed-door emergency meeting with lawmakers.

Their first move wasn’t to craft a rescue plan — it was to dump their stocks and buy shares in companies about to get bailed out.

The economy was circling the drain, but hey, someone's 401(k) was gonna look fantastic.

Then, in 2009, while the rest of the country was busy screaming at each other over health care reform, members of Congress were quietly doing what they do best: making money off the chaos.

During the debate over Obamacare, lawmakers weren’t just voting on the bill — they were trading health care stocks like they had a crystal ball and no conscience.

The public found out years later, thanks to author Peter Schweizer and a 60 Minutes segment.

That led to the 2012 STOCK Act, which Congress passed with all the enthusiasm of a cat at bath time. And guess what? It didn’t change squat. It just gave them something to wave around when they needed a PR win.

Fast forward to 2020, and COVID-19 is looming. Sen. Richard Burr gets classified briefings about the seriousness of the virus, but the American public is still being told that it would simply “disappear.”

A week before the market nosedives, Burr dumps up to $1.7 million in stock in one day. One day! (Coincidentally, Burr’s brother-in-law also sold off between $97,000 and $280,000 worth of stock on the very same day.)

That’s not an investment strategy — that’s a panic sale with a cheat code.

The FBI took Burr’s phone, but surprise! No charges. Because when you make the rules, you don’t break them — you revise them.

This kind of behavior isn’t just sleazy — it’s bipartisan.

Fast forward to 2022, and when Russia invaded Ukraine, at least a dozen members of Congress saw dollar signs.

Energy stocks, defense contractors — you name it, they bought it. While the public saw war, they saw a hot tip.

Even Jesse Watters from Fox News, not exactly Mr. Integrity, had to call it what it was: a cash grab. And you know it’s bad when Jesse Watters is the voice of reason.

And Greene? She didn’t even pretend to be subtle. She tweeted, “War and rumors of war is incredibly profitable.”

Then — oh look! — turns out she bought stock in a defense company and two energy firms two days before Russia rolled into Ukraine.

And again, her magical financial advisor takes the fall. You’d think this mystery money wizard would be the richest man in America by now.

You want to know why conspiracy theories thrive?

Why people think COVID was a cash grab or that Ukraine aid is just one giant ATM for corrupt elites?

Because Congress keeps acting like cartoon villains and expecting a standing ovation.

So yeah, let’s ban congressional stock trading, altogether.

Not because it’ll save democracy. Not because it’ll restore ethics to public service. But because we’re all out of reasons not to.

The clown show’s been running too long, and frankly, it’s getting old."

Source:Matt Lewis with a look at U.S. Representative Marjorie T. Greene (MAGA, Georgia)

From Matt Lewis

There's this nasty rumor going around (that The New Democrat has nothing to do with in spreading) that U.S. Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, isn't as stupid and crazy as popular opinion and all the available, objective evidence suggests that she is. That her escaped mental patient, who struggles just to spell her own name, and tie her own shoes together correctly, instead of tying them together... that's just an act to try to show her fellow MAGA colleagues that she's not just whacked out of her mind as they are, but she could make them look sane and perhaps even intelligent.

And talk about acting: MAGA portrays themselves as the populists who wake up everyday (when they're not hungover) and get up to fight for the "real Americans" and to "drain the swamp". I mean what's more populist, than insider trading and becoming a millionaire while in Congress, instead of accomplishing that before you get to Congress? (LOL) Which is how most members of Congress obtain millions: They inherit it, (which is the old fashion way) or earn it before they get elected to the U.S. House or Senate.

Getting rich and becoming millionaires while you are "earning your living" from taxpayers is nothing new:

Then U.S. Senator Lyndon Johnson bought his ranch in 1951. LBJ died in 1973 worth over 100 million dollars in today's money. The man was a son of a teacher and Texas State Representative.

U.S. Senator Albert Gore SR. (Albert Gore JR's father) became a millionaire when he was in Congress as well. And I'm sure there are plenty of other examples like that.

It's just that members of Congress tend not to claim to be "champions of real Americans", while making millions of dollars for themselves and in some cases at taxpayers expense, like voting against legislation that could benefit a lot of people, simply because an insider told them they would get a lot of money if they voted no. Which is what makes Representative Taylor Greene's inside trading story, very ironic.

James Carville: Is It Time For A Schism In The Democratic Party?

"Who is David Hogg and what the hell is he up to ?
James and Al discuss the actions of the Trump administration, the importance of fighting for justice, and the internal dynamics of the Democratic Party. Key themes include the administration's disregard for court orders, the significance of Harvard's resistance to Trump, the need for Democrats to focus on economic issues, and the potential for gains in upcoming elections. The discussion also highlights internal conflicts within the Democratic Party, particularly regarding the direction and priorities of its members."

Source:Politicon with a look at the mad political scientist James Carville.

From Politicon

The New Democrat has been with James Carville and his strategy for how Democrats should respond to Donald Trump and MAGA from day 1:

"When you see your arch-enemy is drowning in the ocean. don't throw them a lifeline. Let them drown.

When you see your arch enemy's house is on fire and no one is there to do anything about it, don't even offer to spit on the fire, let alone dump your own water on it, or call 911. Just let the house burn down.

Let MAGA burn our national house down. Hopefully they don't destroy the country. But don't help them do that, or try to get in their way, outside of what's going on in the courts and at the state level. Show American voters this is exactly who you voted for and the consequences of that fateful decision. And tell them and show them there's a better way on the campaign trail and why you deserve to be in power again."

I understand James Carville's feelings about what DNC Vice Chairman David Hogg and other left-wingers in the Democratic Party and what they're trying to do, which is literally use Democratic Party funds against other Democrats, especially mainstream Democrats. I mean if it were up to me, every Socialist in America would be shipped out to hippie communes in California and Washington State, with lifetime supply of coffee, pot, French wine and cheese, all the vegetables they can eat... free of charge.

But, I still live in the real world, (at least politically and before Donald Trump takes over what's left of the real world) and I understand politics well enough that in order to win elections, you have to have more voters than the other party.

3-10 Democrats right now (perhaps more) are Socialists or Social Democrats, ideologically. Whether they self-described that way or live in the political closet, is a different issue. But ideologically, we're talking about democratic socialists, when you are talking about the left-wing of the Democratic Party. You can't win elections, with perhaps 1/3 of your party staying home, or hanging out at their favorite coffee houses, staring at their phones, listening to their favorite hipster gurus, when they should instead be volunteering, organizing, and voting for Democrats who can actually beat Republicans in 2025-26.

Long-term, I love would to see the far-left of the Democratic Party get evicted (unless they leave voluntarily) from the Democratic Party and move to the Green Party where they would be a lot more comfortable ideologically and culturally. Or just get out of politics altogether, or move to those hippie communes that I was talking about earlier.

But until that new tent in the Democratic Party is built, that includes the center-right JFK Democrats, the FDR Progressives, a party that appeals to urban, suburban, as well as small town blue-collar voters, who are interested in economic and national security issues, as well as public safety, who are not cultural warriors... the Democratic Party is still an Al and Peggy Bundy (from Married With Children) marriage of political inconvenience, with two warring factions between mainstream Democrats and the Green Wing Democrats.

Back in February and really even today short of James Carville's saying that the Socialists should just leave the Democratic Party, Carville was the mad political scientist of American politics... certainly Democratic politics. But telling 1/3 of your own party to get the hell out (or use stronger language, if you want) especially in an off year when you have 2 open gubernatorial races coming up... that just sounds... well, madd. That's just crazy. That's just as bad as the Vice Chairman of the party wanting to use party resources to defeat mainstream Democrats, simply because the far-left doesn't like those Democrats.
