Thom Hartmann: The French Millionaire Tax

“Follow the French on the Millionaire Tax”

I can’t get past Thom Hartmann’s comment about the American middle class never having it better than in 1981, when Ronald Reagan just became President of the United States and Jimmy Carter just left The White House.

If I have Thom Hartmann’s bio right: he’s in his his early 60s right now. So we was 30, 32-33 years ago. So he has to remember the double-digit interest and inflation rates, America just starting to come out of the recession of 1979-80, shortages in energy and other goods and other services in America, that were common in the late 1970s and early 80s. Unless he was knocked out into a coma and living in a cave in Afghanistan or some place in 1981. Then by all means, he can believe whatever he wants.

You want companies to invest in America, don’t try to tax most of their revenue away from them.

You want individuals to invest in America, don’t try to tax most of their income away from them.

If you want ordinary Americans to move up the economic ladder in America, empower them to get better jobs and perhaps even start their own companies and be in complete control of their lives.

But you don’t create a stronger economy where more Americans can do well, by empowering government to collect most of the money from everyone, with the promise that it knows how to spend the people’s money better than they do.
